What a player. He defo had the touch of an angel, don't think I ever seen him miscontrol a ball or have a bad game.

SPL was a breeze for him. Even in the Premier League he looked excellent...just a shame about his injury.

One of my favourite ever Hibs players. Such a first touch, his use of the ball was great and he was solid. I'm sure he's been back up to games quite a few times since leaving so he obviously still has a soft spot for us.

I played football with him at school in Hartlepool, one game we won 8-7 and he scored all 8! Always had an amazing first touch and temperament, never got flustered

Best LB I have seen play for Hibs. A superb player, made everything look so easy.

I’m my top 5 beside Riordan, Boozy, Stevenson and Gray. Absolute class.
Must’ve easily seen at least 90% of his games for us and he genuinely didn’t have one poor game.''It's always been just part of the culture. Murphy was tough but classy. Wish I’d seen shades as it seems he is the only left back who could compare.

He just oozed class.
Some players just have it , David Murphy had it in spades

Anyone else remember ‘that’ tackle on the Dundee United player right in front of the East?

Classy guy on and off the park it seems.
Who is that to the right of him in the photo on the site though?
Thanks

Honourable mentions for Laursen and Stevenson too but neither IMO as good as those two
Murphy could easily have been a better player than Erich but I absolutely loved Erich as a player and could never choose anyone ahead of him
Other than a slight lack of pace Murphy had everything and if he had had that pace would IMO have been a worthy challenger for Cole & Bridge for England
I think he suffered the injury that finished his career pre Hibs and whilst it eventually finished his playing career have no doubt it held him back during his career too.
Great player, hard as nails and loved HibsLast edited by BSEJVT; 01-06-2018 at 09:11 PM.

What a player. If was a yard quicker would have played very top.Best first touch I've seen. Always took ball in stride.

I put David Murphy alongside Erich Schaedler as the best left back I have witnessed play for our beloved club.
Who can forget those first touch/kill-the-ball pieces of magic and those wonderful bursts down the left, as well as his goal efforts. The guy was class through and through and an absolute gentleman to boot.
Bless you David in all that you do.Last edited by Hi Heid Yin; 02-06-2018 at 12:20 AM.

Couldn't agree more, he was a brilliant player who always gave his all too. Players like that are quite rare these days, so many young players could learn an awful lot from David Murphy.

Sweet Left Peg.
His first touch was so good that he was looking to where his second touch would be before he received the ball. One of the best.
