I prefer signing players that are younger with a hunger to improve, not players who are on the wind down. Of course there are exceptions for real quality but I don’t think le fondre is one of those

I do, we need a player not unlike Dillon who can start attacks from deep but also capable of winning the ball and scrapping for possession. Neither Bartley or Whittaker give us that.

I think he is the closest we currently have to that position.

Based on last season though i think there were times he found the game too fast and there were times he lost concentration/discipline. I also think Slivka is at his best making runs into the box.

I see him playing filling the box to box role that's more similar to McGinn than McGeouch.

Wasn't my point, Ian Cruise said we took Dagnall from non league but he'd regularly played league 1 for a good few years. I'd take ALF in a heart beat, a proven striker at a good level.
Yeah, you are correct I totally had that one wrong. Was convinced he came from non league and we were hoping for a Jamie Vardy-esque find. I still think there's less risk associated with ALF than a Dagnall type signing but you never know in advance how a player will settle or fit in.

Agree with this. After 30 probably 90% of players just aren't interested.

I'd agree Slivka is more like McGinn but hes not convincing defensively, good athletic ability gets into the box well

As a goalscorer he definitely is quality.

Definitely who I'd prefer to see in the holding role for the next game.

If someone is signing today, I really hope it’s a striker or midfielder.

We really need another option up top and someone to replace Dylan is essential IMO.

  15. #7154
Time to forget about Bartley. Brings nothing to the table and as far as CDM performances go that was as bad as you will see last night. Time to move on.

Are you getting mixed up with Jamie Insall who we signed from Stourbridge

There's a tear in my eye here as i agree with you.

Absolutely love the guy but i fear the time has come we need to find a new Marvin Bartley.

I'm still certain he has a place at our club. Or hopeful at least. The guy is a colossus in the big games. Last night wasn't a game to judge anyone really I think.

Love the guy too. Total derby legend

He's always been a very limited player, but then he was successful at a limited role of getting the ball and giving it to McGeouch, McGinn and, latterly, Allan to actually do something with it.

He has given terrific service, but really time to move on.

not sure what's going on with Marv, one of my favourites and(for me) first name on the team sheet for games v sellick/sevco/sparryheids but watched him when he played at falkirk in the development team tail-end of last season and he was very poor

    That’s how I see Slivka.
A run of games should get him up to speed.

Might just be as simple as age catching up with him. He's just turned 32 and they said last night this will be his 4th season with us, the position he plays is a very demanding role and requires a lot of energy and physicality, it couldn't last forever.

As has also been said his position is also a lot easier when he has a Dylan Mcgeouch or a Scott Allan beside him demanding the ball off him at every opportunity.

352 has never suited Marv, means he has to play a wee bit further forward that he would normally play

Perfectly understandable if you do and can't name him. Just wondering how much we should nip your head for info.
No I don’t know who it is.

Would be a good signing as we play with wingers now

Had regular games since leaving us, played on loan for Portsmouth last season. Still only 23 too. Why not?

Unfortunately i agree with this as well. He’s not good enough to play regularly in a team going for top 2/3/4. Hopefully a position Lennon is looking to strengthen.

For me Slivka is much more a replacement for SJM than Dylan. Loads of energy and willing to run at Players.
