The new Chancellor has quite an awkward job on his hands explaining why he is ok working under circumstances that his predecessor said were unacceptable.
Don’t think he does really. Will take his press secretary two minutes to knock up something along the following:

“I’m happy to take the job and see the teams at No10 and No11 working closer together as a good, positive step. That wasn’t to the liking of my predecessor which was obviously his decision to make, that just happens to be one I don’t agree with”

Obviously it politics so doesn’t matter if it’s true or not

Whilst I’m very far from being a Tory myself I’ve always viewed them as a weird schizophrenic entity with half of them being almost ok and half of them being genuinely nasty headbangers.

It is sad and in no small way worrying to see anyone half decent being purged as they settle on being the evil lunatic far right shower of *******s that I have on occasion argued that they are not.

I don’t exactly mourn the loss of the ex-chancellor, but the circumstances surrounding his departure and that of Smith are both deeply worrying.

After all that howling about democracy it is interesting to see the power invested in Dominic Cummings.
The bad yins were on the fringes of that party in the nineties. They're not only in charge now but are seen as the norm and portrayed as cuddly "celebrities". Swivel eyed monsters the lot of them.

Is there any requirement, legal or otherwise, for a Prime Minister to govern the country by a cabinet system? Taking the treasury under his wing may be the first step to Boris ruling like a president.

If you swap "a" president, to " the " president, it all becomes an awful lot clearer.

Jackson Carlaw and Annie Wells what a pairing. It could only be better if Murdo Fraser had been given a leading roll. I see some unionists on twitter, I know I know, saying what a great appointment and go get her Jackson. Wow have they actually watched any Scottish politics?

From a party whose main campaigning tactic is to wave a red white and flag in people's faces and scream what a great country we live in when in fact huge swathes of it are third world.

It is a disgraceful comment to make and he is totally pandering to the WATP rule brittania brigade. The faith based comment is imo implying a Catholic conspiracy amongst the SNP. I am from what would be called a Protestant family background but don't actually believe in any religion, neither does my wife, my kids or my brother's family. We all do believe in Scottish independence though. I hopefopk see through that ***** including the no voters. I have no issues with those who wish to remain in the UK. I do t agree with them but I WILL NOT fall out with them. ********s like Carlaw are deliberately stoking up the flames of hatred and now look to be using religion to do so.

It’s being grateful for small mercies but that’s possibly the first time I have approved of an action from Boris Johnson’s administration.

He obviously just tripped and fell over again, and his hand accidentally ended up in another man's kegs.

I have no problem with her earning that.

It was a big night, she was the kind of figure with the insight and knowledge that was required and desired. If that's what a private company decided it was worth to secure her services then so be it.

There will be many nights in future that she won't work so she's entitled to make hay when the sun shines, and there isn't an election every night.

We need to be a bit careful with our "politics of envy" - how far do we take it?

I think we're right to take the BBC to task when they decide to splurge a load of license fee payers' cash on big names who may or may not deserve it but ITV, Sky etc can do what they like, if they can afford it.

At least three government ministers - Churchill, Whately, and Johnson - have today responded to detailed questions about the country's readiness to deal with multiple cases of coronavirus by not answering the questions posed at all, but instead repeating how ready everything is and how the most important thing is to wash your hands more often.

What are they like, the Chinese - if only they had had access to soap!
