    Overweight Players

Can think of quite a few porkers. Not so much in this day and age but when I started watching football as kid in the late 70’s every team seemed to have a chunky chap in the line up.

Joe Harper on his debut for HIBS at Brockville leaving a slimmer by far in comparison slimline duo on the bench in Alan Gordon and Jimmy Orourke. An absolute disgrace and the beginning of the end.

Mark Yardley would be the name that would always spring to mind here. He's had a street named after him in Paisley - I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere...

Tomas Brolin. Not so much at the Euros when he knocked out England, but when he arrived at Leeds. **** knows what he'd been eating between times but he was borderline obese. And scored once or twice as well!

Here's a link to him getting 'fatty' abuse from the Leeds fans

    Stephen Dobbie
    Paul Cairney
Gary O (2nd time round possibly)
David Murphy when he first came was perhaps in this category.
    Grant Holt.

Most were decent players for us I might add

Commons when he first arrived? Seem to remember him being on record as saying he was a bit like Hatton and when injured/not playing he found it really difficult to keep the weight off however he could shift it once he was training regularly again.

His brother - Richard - who’d be early-mid 50s had a trial for Hibs if memory serves me.

We were having this discussion at work earlier. A colleague who is a Man Utd fan was talking about Luke Shaw's bust up with the Special One. My colleague thinks it is partly down to Luke Shaw being fat and overweight. I think the lower threshold of being 'fat and overweight' must be very low for Shaw to be classed as that.

Paul Cairney was poor IMO example check him out against Falkirk semi final 2013 for all three goals shocking!

    Basher (Hibs)

John Overton (Aston Villa) was cryptically overweight.

When we had our "good run" under Butcher (4 wins & 4 draws in 9 games) a lot of it was down to Cairney wiining corners and free kicks around the box. Results suffered when Cairney got injured.

Good shout - though I’d argue he never shifted it during his time with us haha!
