Really shocked to hear this. Apparently found dead in his hotel room in Udine where Fiorentina were due to play today. I watch a few Italian matches on BT, I think it was only a couple of weeks ago I watched him in Fiorentina 2-0 home defeat to Juve, he was a more than decent player that had won a few caps with Italy too, He came through the youth system at Milan and also had a loan spell with Roma.

A sad story. RIP Davide Astori

Unreal news, was a really cracking defender, he was often noted for his great athleticism and was a typical Italian centre back, absolutely rock solid strength and comfortable playing with the ball at his feet. Just shows how fragile life can be. RIP.

Just seen Contes interview after the Chelsea game and he’s taking it very hard.

Stuff like this can happen to anyone of us yet when it happens to people like footballers there’s something unsettling about it. We never know what’s around the corner so need to make the most of life before we get there.

    RIP

The Italian police have opened a manslaughter inquiry.

Apparently, it's the only way that they can have an autopsy carried out.

I see his team are paying his contract for life to his wife and kid! That's some gesture

He was set to sign a new 4 year deal. Fiorentina are honouring that, albeit not for life but still a fantastic gesture. If only all companies held such values.

Fiorentina were always my favourite Italian team, although I can't really say I follow them closely. Awful news.

Re-the post above, my son, who is fifa daft, was talking about how the fifa 18 games people would represent the death in the game. Surely 'deleting' him would be disrespectful? sends shivers down my spine, something creepy about the intersection between death and disposable entertainment.

Wondered the same. I replaced him and had a moments silence before my next game.

    Seriously.
