Probably deserves a thread of its own,
Thought I’d have a look at how clubs like PNE can outbid Hibs/Aberdeen etc for the likes of Moult.
It’s not a dig at PNE, but showing why, at the moment, we have no chance when English Championships clubs look at players in Scotland
Moult is signing for around £500k, and wages of around £10k per week!
Looking at their accounts up to 30th June 2017
Turnover was £11.9 million
Loss after taxation £852,000
Ave attendance was 12,611
Season ticket holders 7,605
It’s when you see the breakdown of their turnover, it’s obvious we are really poor relations in Scotland in TV revenue payments
Year to 2017
Season and match day ticket sales £3,699 million
Premier league and English football league distributions and televised games - £6,758 million (up from £4,759 million in 2017)
Commercial and media revenue - £1,255 million
Merchandising £104,000
Other income £140,000
Total £11,956,000
Over 56% of turnover from PL deals etc, unbelievable
There are at least 5 clubs in Scotland who are much bigger than PNE, so until we get a much much better TV deal, we just can’t compete
Scotland gets £20 million per season, divided by 12 clubs

Preston's turnover is actually less than I expected then. Isn't that roughly what Aberdeen turned over last season?

Isn't the English Championship the fifth richest league in the world or something?

We have had a real problem marketing our game in this country, mainly because we've entrusted the task to idiots who continually talk us down. We've also taken on the slightly unhelpful tendency towards comparing our game to England, a comparison that we're never going to come out favourably in.
We've lost so much ground it is going to be almost impossible to come back from.
It is criminal how little we have accepted being paid for our "product".
It's not like our viewing figures are that far behind those involving English sides to justify such a difference either.
There is a lot to like about Scottish football at the moment. I actually really like the BT coverage of it too.
Hopefully at some point we can get shot of the likes of Regan, Doncaster and their Armageddon crap, start talking our game up a bit and get something a bit closer to what we deserve.

The fact that they are spending 500k on a guy they can get for nothing in 6 months highlights how much cash they have available.
I think Motherwell have done very well to get that amount. He is an excellent player of that there is no doubt but to get that sum when he was away in the summer for nothing is very good business.

Folk compare the Scottish and English top leagues like they're the same thing which is the root of the problem. That's why Scottish football lost the big money when the authorities got too big for their boots and tried to demand extra.
Now we are in a position where clubs like PNE can pay X a week and we can't get anywhere near that.

Look at some of the countries withsmaller populations with better deals than us. To be fair, I don’t think any of them have Neil Doncaster on their negotiating teams.

Tv companies pay as little as they can get away with - they are not charities.

The only one that has a smaller population than us on that graphic is Norway and it's only smaller by about 100k. The reason Norays is so high is down to the fact that the place is chronically expensive to live.
Also I'm pretty sure Sevco and Celtic split 50% of the £19m between them and the other 50% goes to the rest of us.Last edited by Winston Ingram; 15-12-2017 at 01:15 PM.

Does that include the 100,000 times I have watched Sir David Gray's goal at Hampden?

This makes even less sense when you know that the average attendances in the top Danish league is less than 6,000 per match day which is pathetic against the top Scottish league average of 15,500. In essence we are 2.5 times more interested in football than the Danish.Last edited by CMurdoch; 15-12-2017 at 02:57 PM.

Basically they are not as interested in football as us and despite their vast population not many folk go to their club games

Average attendances in the SPL are only eclipsed by the top 2 leagues of Germany and England and the top leagues of Spain, Italy, France and Holland.
We are football daft in Scotland

Wr need to be careful of averages though, as the OF skew that figure enormously - which backs up their argumet to take the lion share of the cash.

You think it's bad now? In 2026 we'll be getting outbid by York City and Forest Green Rovers.
