I can't amend the thread title so either add the word "job" to the end of the sentence or replace "get" with "be".

Lol, he is one of the few Hearts managers I didn't mind listening to. There was one interview when the reporter asked him a question after a match and he went on for about 5 minutes without a breath.

Had a good Derby record. They sold his best players and left him with *****. Seems an okay guy into the bargain.

A total idiot with very mixed experience. Cheap option and another season for the terrors in the championship.

Also don't mind him. Met him through work and he was a riot. Also a gentleman.

it's a strange appointment though is it not....he is a likeable character as others have said - his post match interviews are almost legendary. He has had quite mixed bag of results as a manger. Most often employed for one season. Fired for poor results as much as any success...Quite an international journeyman manager...For United, I would have thought a "safer" pair of hands to get them up would have been a more likely appointment

Who do you expect them to appoint? Doesn't seem a cheap option to me, that would've been keeping McKinnon.

Much better choice than one of the usual ''lads''

If they're going down the ex-yam route then there can only be one contender

I have to confess to slightly loving Eddy Malofeev. He doesn't generate the kind of scorn one would feel for Stephen "Fail" Fail for example.

The fact he looks like Lloyd Bridges in "Airplane" definitely helps his case

    airplane-ii-3.jpg

Adding to his legendary status, I found this teamtalk, when he was in charge of Dynamo Minsk, ahead of a vital game against Spartak Moscow. It's in a good article by Jonathan Wilson in the Guardian should anybody wish to read further:

"Imagine there is a troop of monkeys crossing a field," Malofeev said to a hushed dressing-room. "On the other side of the field is a group of lions. Many different things could happen. Maybe the lions will tear the monkeys to pieces. Or maybe one of the monkeys will go first, and will distract the lions, and will sacrifice himself so the other monkeys will live. Today, as monkeys, we must sacrifice ourselves for the victory."

This man needs to be back in Scottish football. Hopefully Dundee Utd do the right thing

Very strange appointment. Wouldn't be too impressed if I was a Dundee United fan. Choice between him and Yogi is very uninspiring.

Chimpanzees on the other hand. there's a troup that could tear ye to bits. let's not rip the pee out a legendary manager that saw his troup beating a club like mighty Greetna to win a cup.

I thought he seemed far too nice a fella to be a Hearts manager.

Malofeev really was a comedy character and deserves to be ridiculed in Scotland based on his performance here.

But earlier this year I read the book "Inverting the pyramid", a really heavy going book about the history of football tactics.

Malofeev gets a mention, and is credited with a lot of good work whilst working with Valery Lobsnovski at Dynami Kiev over a very long period.
