Premiership teams with lack of ‘TV’ services.

I’m often away with work at weekends and found the championship had a decent amount of teams that offered a live streaming service to fans abroad.

Away again this weekend so can’t make the Motherwell trip and was quite surprised to see they don’t offer such service. I thought more premiership teams would’ve offered this to try and increase revenue. Strange! Does anyone know if there’s a reason for this? Can’t think of one myself other than small fan base?

7 SPL teams offer live streaming (as below). I think that some reciprocal agreements are now in place for watching certain away games on Hibs TV too as the Celtic game at Parkhead was recently shown and I think subscribers of Red TV (Aberdeen) were able to watch the recent game at Easter Road. For the teams that don't offer the service I would imagine that demand would be the main reason for not doing so as it seems to be more of a service than a serious source of revenue. Sometimes some of the away games are on BBC Alba as well, but unfortunately not the Motherwell game this week. I think their schedule is only known a week in advance.

    Hibs -
    Hearts -
    Rangers -

Cheers for the info mate. That’s actually more teams than I thought had a streaming service. Looks like i’ll need to give this weekend a miss. Only the 3rd game of the season I’ve missed so far which is pretty good considering I have such an awful work schedule as far as weekends are concerned.

You could try the Periscope app, sometimes someone is prepared to point their mobile phone at the pitch for 90 minutes.

I think hearts tv streamed the derby from Easter rd so maybe an agreement in place there now. Hope they enjoyed cliffs commentary!
At the end of the game he summed up by saying " so if any of you have any Jambo friends don't forget to give it to them really tight. Goodnight"

I hardly think that there are loads of Motherwell fans, or indeed Hibernian fans working in other countries this weekend. I do understand that in this day and age, that watching games live abroad are quite possible but it is hardly a do or die game, is it? lucky you, able to make a decent living , working in all these foreign lands.

I get that. But surely there are as many Motherwell fans as there are Raith or Dunfermline fans? Both of which have a streaming service. Given that Morherwell will have Home games against Celtic, The Rangers, Hibs and Hearts, all of which I assume have a decent support abroad and would pay to stream the service I just find it a bit strange. Never mind though I’ll try Periscope as some other helpful poster pointed out.

    What an odd comment.

Look at the time stamp. Always a decent indicator that amusing blether will follow from the poster in question.

Back on topic, I've also found it odd that some teams, even in the Championship, offered extensive and free YouTube highlights but Hibs don't.

Presumably to not cannibalise the paying service but still found it odd.

I can't imagine Dumbarton or even Raith bringing in that much from subscriptions to their TV channel in comparison to Hibs who I'd imagine make a decent enough profit thanks to the volunteer aspect from many of those involved.

The Dumbartons may find that by getting their games out there for free it creates enough interest and some fans decide to get along to games and become more involved in the club.

I know that the Raith and St Mirren services are run by students who are doing media courses etc, so it acts as good work experience for them and also benefits the clubs as these guys are doing it for free. I'm assuming it isn't otherwise commercially viable for them, which is why I think there are still some SPL clubs who don't do it, which is a pity.

Ah, that makes sense too. Win Win Win.
