That's the strategy McInnes set out and it worked perfectly. Possession means nothing if you don't have a cutting edge.
Levein will employ exactly the same tactics a week on Tuesday.

That's the way to play. We are a long way off from where we want to be

They done what they had to do to win the game. Watch our matches in the league the last 3 years, score a goal then say it's up to us to break them down.

The derby is an even bigger game now. We've all enjoyed a laugh at Hearts start to the season but if they beat us they are above us after close to a round of games.

That's exactly what Hearts will try and do. And if they score first then they'll succeed because our attemts at creating chances is shambolic.
Management and players should be ashamed of that today. Having most of the ball against a team that's a goal up doesn't make us the better side. Powder puff

That's about as cynical approach as I've seen an opposition team take at Easter Road.
Every time we created a bit of space we were fouled. Every time John McGinn got the ball he was fouled. They made very little attempt to cross the halfway line in the second half. They were rigid, tough and impossible to break down.
And it worked. They're going up the road with 3 points, exactly what they came for.
There were a few positives to take from today, but one of them is that it was exactly the type of gameplay that Hearts will come with in a few weeks so we should be a bit wiser for the experience.
We cannot afford to lose the first goal. We need to the referee to be strong and get the yellow cards right (so we need to know how to influence him to make sure this is the case). We need to figure out a way to break down a packed defence.

It's not rocket science playing Hibs. Score and then sit back and watch us huff and puff. We will turn someone over quite heavily eventually but until we stop conceding it'll be groundhog day again. That tactic will suit a Levein team to a T.

Lennon said it was probably our best performance at ER and he sounded happy with the performance of the players.

We played well against a cynical team who fouled and time wasted. Just came up short in the final 3rd. Ref was atrocious too

think i heard preston say hertz have a run of 11 home games coming up, we've dropped 8 points already after just 4 home games

We didn’t have most of the ball
I certainly didn’t think we were the better side
We gave a goal away against an experience professional outfit who defended stoutly
I agree with the bit about how hearts will play.
It’s time we learned how to do this ourselves
Certainly nothing to be ashamed of thoughLast edited by hibbydog; 14-10-2017 at 06:50 PM.

This was a dress rehearsal for playing an even dirtier Levein team. From the sounds of jonnyboys report if we get the wrong ref and we play the lone striker and leave making changes till way too late then brawn and hoofball will prevail.
Up to us to work out how to beat it.
