I know it's probably a topic that's been covered before, but I just think it's pretty outrageous that STV is covering the Malta v England game, and the Scotland game is on Sky, which not everybody has. Just saying like.

When I was a kid, everybody watched international matches on tv (whether live or just highlights). Now many people can't even if they want to. Yet another reason why people are losing interest in the national side.

You need to blame the SFA for this one - going after the cash rather than trying to promote the game in Scotland by making it available to everyone.

What you fail to realise is that it's not STV's fault that the England game is on... its ITV's.... they have the rights to a lot of England games. You will notice that only Scotland v England or the reverse fixture has been on STV lately... this is because STV take ITV's coverage. Just like Corrie and X Factor etc.... there are only certain slots that STV opt out of ITV's schedule and show Scottish content.
Even when STV covered the recent games the actual football coverage was done by ITV and only the pre/half time/post match studio segments were STV content produced by STV.
The cost of covering football these days is far too much for STV to afford.

N.Ireland vs San Marino is on SKY sports Mix which is a free to view channel for anyone that's interested. It's 0-0 at halftime which in itself is pretty interesting.

You can blame guys like Gordon Smith ex SFA for signing the deals and selling the rights to Sky, Ironically those without cash or some eldely would have a better chance of seeing a Scotland game in the 1980's than they would now.
Scotland games should be nationwide protected like the English.

Are the Scotland highlights on STV later or is it just the England game again?

ITV should be made to make a home nations only package. Don't mind it on sky though. Any time Crocker says "to deliever"I go weak at the knees. Especially when it concludes as a goal like last night.

Good for the pubs. Robbies was packed last night. Unfortunately the EBC will always consider Lineker's salary to be of greater importance that the whole of Scottish football

Just to clarify back in 2012, UEFA purchased all the TV rights from its 53 members (now 55 with the addition of Gibraltar and Kosovo), for the 2016 and 2018 qualifiers and have since extended the deal to 2020 and 2022. UEFA then sold on the rights to TV companies.
UEFA spent a fortune on the rights but what it did was give them control of everything like they have in the Champions League. It standardised the coverage with rules on minimum amount of cameras etc.
UEFA created the week of football so the games are spread out across the week and we have games being played on Monday night's etc. They also kept the big nations apart in the Euro 2016 qualifiers to guarantee their qualification, although Netherlands failed.
So even although this is a FIFA tournament under their rules, UEFA control the TV rights and schedule. It is called TV rights centralisation.
Previously, the Scottish FA would sell their home qualifiers, home friendlies and Scottish Cup rights as one deal, to Sky and BBC Scotland.
The Scottish FA sold the rights to UEFA for a guaranteed big fee, they didn't have to go to the market either.
Sky bought Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland rights (home and away).
ITV bought England rights (hence STV had the two Scotland v England games via ITV rights).
Just because Sky don't pay big money for the SPFL doesn't mean they don't pay big for other Scottish rights (not Premier League prices as we should never compare the EPL and SPFL) but Sky pay much more pro rata to UEFA for the qualifiers and the Scottish FA for the Scottish Cup and home Scotland friendlies.
Just wait until the Nations League starts, that needs a chapter in itself...

Here in France, there used to be 6 "terrestrial" stations. The smallest and newest was M6 who surprised everyone by outbidding the bigger established stations to have the right to show all French away internationals and half of their World Cup finals matches. They employed popular commentary teams (using David Ginola as an excellent studio anchor man) and made a great success of the whole thing.
I'm pretty sure STV, for example, could do it if they really had the appetite.
Watching the national team shouldn't come down to paying subscription channels or having to go and watch it in the pub.
It should be about whole families getting round the tv and cheering on their country.

Or could it be another 'make it up based on what suits at the time' scenario
