300k for Mallan. We should easily be able to match that no?

Once players get attention from these types of clubs we are out of it.

Good goals scoring record for the laddie, albeit all at a low level of football. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. For a club like Celtic it's chicken feed, for Hibs it's breaking the bank.

Barnsley FC have average attendances of less than 14,000
They are perennial strugglers.
Barnsley is a town of only 90,000 people.
If we want Mallen we should go and get him.
The likelyhood is that we would recover any money we spend when selling him in 2 or 3 seasons.
Does anyone know what they would be likely pay him in wages?

I think it all comes down to where Mallan wants to go and how much Hibs want him. I think St Mirren would be keen to sell to Hibs on a similar deal to The McGinn transfer even despite the £300k offer from Barnsley. St Mirren will be well aware that they could see as much as £1million on top of the initial fee for McGinn if & when he moves on and i think they would be very keen on a similar structured deal.
As for Mallan, I am sure he will also look at McGinn as an example that Hibs could be a considerable junp in his current wages as well as a stepping stone to much bigger things than Barnsley in the future.
Its possible, if we want him.

That's all true but they play in England, so probably have a much higher budget than Hibs due to TV money.
We just can't compete with English clubs, money wise.

Think Barnsley would pay £6k to Hibs £2k but he would quickly make that up with a better move in 2 years time. Lennon should get McGinn to sell Hibs to him.

Our football authorities need to keep pushing the TV companies to get a better deal so that we can at least see off guff teams like Barnsley. Reluctantly I know we are never going to compete with the Derby County's of the world.

From what he's on it's life changing cash at that level. He could get injured before getting another chance or risk his form going out the window.

Even going to Hibs would be life changing for him. Earning a £100k a year and with the stability of home and the potential of a much better move in 2 seasons.
As I said John McGinn could play a big roll in selling Hibs to him. It's also entirely possible that Lennon sees him as little more than a free kick specialist and as such isn't that interested.
Like all the other potential deals time will tell the tale.

Is he all that good? Hits a nice free kick but I'm not convinced we should be throwing money at him.

All things we're either missing completely or very light on.
Good scoring record from midfield - goal every 4 games give or take and tends to be around the same in assists.
That and, as others have said, young so potentially good resale value.
Not saying we just chuck whatever money at him but I'd be delighted to have him at the club.
