Ah, subbuteo!! So many great memories of my childhood flicking those wee plastic players and doing running commentaries, chanting and cheering as my wee green and white sleeved team demolished the Royal blue's!!

Was thinking about subbuteo last week, went to see The Undertones in Bristol and they played (of course) My Perfect Cousin.

My Hibs Subbuteo team once beat Barcelona 5-0 and then beat Real Madrid 7-0 in the same night. We were on fire, long before Stokesy was.

Yep, lucky to see them, just pure chance as we were down at my sisters last weekend.

Brutal there is not a decent, down and dirty 2000 person standing room venue in Edinburgh.

Caley Palais used to be good for these gigs (remember seeing The Smiths there back in the day).

Usher Hall is ok now they can take the seats out, but its no Barrowlands !!

I bet no one remembers the old subbuteo with the celluloid cut out figures. They led dangerous lives on the carpet.

Firstly, the cat would get after them. A promising run down the wing could suddenly end with your man being cuffed into some interstice of the room.

Then the men were easily stepped on and broken. Often you'd wind up with eleven Jimmy Johnstones. Happy days!

There is no such thing as too much yarn, just not enough time.
