Thumbs Up Attendance at First Leg v Brondby, Some Context

There was a lot of negative talk in the run-up towards the First Leg against Brondby, as to how the ticket sales were going. As it turned out, the attendance was much better on the night than most of us expected.

To give some context, I though I'd compare it with the attendances at the other First Leg ties in the round.

I heard 398,200 of them were left outside the stadium after it hit capacity. Malta's tourist board were delighted about the record numbers of visitors.

Fitbaw folk knew Hibs would get 13k+ even at top dollar.....the drama queens on here were predicting less than 8k....they were wrong as per. The fans turned out in good numbers during the holiday season and if you average the entry fee out at £17 it means we made quarter of a million in gate money alone. Hopefully the fans keep turning up in such numbers.

t's past the Caucasus, so quite. Just being a former part of Soviet Union and CIS. It is possible that a team from Vladivostok in Russia qualifies. That's further east than Japan.

Most of Russia is in Asia as well, so they probably shouldn't be part of UEFA.

I'd like to see somebody tell that to Putin ;-)

If you ever make it too Atyrau in Western Kazakhtan, the central bridge over the River Ural, has a Europe marker on one side and an Asia marker on the other side. Certainly 4/5 of the country is landwise in Asia.

Ha, when I saw people moaning I actually thought the crowd was 5000 or something

    ***ache

Healthy crowd for a game at this time of the season at such an early stage in the competition

Its a flippant point, but there is also a serious point in that half of the reason that european football has been so devalued at our level is the amount of teams that have to be crammed in. Hence us playing umpteen qualifying rounds starting a couple of weeks after the summer.

It's Hibernians of Malta's ground. Birkirkara play at the Ta' Qali National Stadium, which has a capacity of 17k, so I suspect that the Maltesers were a bit dubious about 400k turning up and plumped for Hibernians slightly smaller 4k capacity ground.
