Naw, if it's less than 2 years you don't actually go to jail, it's a suspended sentence.

SSN reporting under Spanish Law that sentences under 2 years can be suspended so he's probably not off to jail!

I am intrigued with this. If he HAS done the crime, which it appears he has, then why should he not go to jail if thats what the law states?

P.s I have no idea about his crime as didnt read it about it

Not many details as yet but I'm sure they'll appeal any jail sentence given, probably end up with a huge fine and a suspended sentence.

As my nine year old son said the fact he's in trouble with the law coupled with him failing too be part of a team who won the World Cup means Messi shouldn't have any claims to being one of the worlds best ever players.

    My son is nine mind!

    Pure greed.

There surely comes a point when you have quite enough money.

    It's not uncommon.

People get on with what they do best, leaving others to deal with stuff they don't understand or are not interested in. It's not a bad decent model to follow, as long as you trust those you're relying on. The trick, though, is to make sure that those advisers are able, and are not hanging you out to dry.

Sting and Leonard Cohen take note

Surely less than two years is a light sentence given the fact millions are involved? Wonder if his status has anything to do with this outcome.

Did anyone expect a different verdict from a court in Catalonia?

I love Messi but I can't agree more with this. Why bother? Why put yourself in a position to potentially get caught when you have the levels of money he has? The tax laws in Spain are very lenient towards footballers as it is. Accept that, pay your taxes and still earn more money in 2 or 3 months than he'll spend all year.

He says he knew very little about his image rights as he was concentrating on just playing football, this might be the case as his father seems to be the main culprit here, tell his son he's dealing with all these things and just play his game, to pay back around 38m Euros.

Probably. My guess is that he will avoid jail and continue but surely his reputation is in tatters now

His reputation as one of the greatest players ever?

To think, Ronaldo is hated regardless of the millions of £ he puts into charities a year! He's a god in Maderia mind you

"Messi, 28, said he signed documents without reading them because he trusted .....the advisers responsible for managing his finances."

    Hmmm, the Beckenbauer defence.
