    Tonight On reflection! 😡

Over the 2 games, were we not good enough, or should we be aggrieved over the incompetent decisions of officials?
1st leg: 1st goal, a wicked deflection. Could've went anywhere. Ends up in our net. We then get a foothold in the game, and gradually improve. Totally dominating the second half. Get ourselves in front, and then are denied a stonewall penalty, which could/should've resulted in us going 2 goals up against 10 men. We then don't deal with an aimless punt into our box, by not defending properly & a goalkeeping blunder.
Verdict? Referee probably cost us the game, but poor defending gave them a draw.
2nd leg: Falkirk started better. Fair enough. Lewis steps out for no apparent reason and let's the striker get goal side. Defensive blunder. We get back into the game with a nice move for the penalty. Stonewall, given. But it's a clear last man/goal scoring opportunity. Red card not given. Amazingly not even a yellow!! 😡
We take the lead with a good goal, then seem quite comfortable. Falkirk send a big striker & long thrower on. Should we have countered with bringing Gunnarson or Fontaine on? An aimless ball to back post. Gray just needs to see it out of play, but chooses to head it aimlessly away. Great strike, but very poor clearance. Defensive error.
We then hit the bar twice in the last 2 minutes. No luck, then as always happens to us, we concede another soft goal through another aimless ball thrown into the box that we don't deal with. Poor defending.
    Overall verdict?
Poor defending proved to be very costly, along with poor finishing. Falkirk certainly had the rub of the green, but also, proper refereeing decisions, and we more than likely win both legs. But we can't control what the officials do, only what we do, and so ultimately, our defensive lapses lost us the tie! 😡

Another reason why we should be complaining to SFA right throughout the season. Houston has dined out on one decision going against him all season and it has worked as refs were afraid to make the big calls they should have. We just seem to meekly accept whatever goes against us and are surprised when we lose out again!

But barring their 1st leg 1st lucky goal, the other 4 were caused by very poor defending.
    That's what cost us.

11 players tonight should have got absolutely torn in about them - they didn't - took the lead, dropped off - no desire to finish teams off.

Can't blame refs or officials - have to 100% blame manager and players. Hibs should have waltzed this round.

The penalty turned the game for us, but has happened so often this season we couldn't finish them off. I wonder when or if we would have started playing if we didn't get that pen. Just not good enough all over the park in such a huge game for us.

Posted missing for the opening 45 in the 1st leg and didn't turn up for 30 minutes tonight. I've no idea what the game plan is, but not competing in such a huge match is a ******' nonsense.

I actually think the team believes it was better than Falkirk, but our lot don't have a fraction of the charater and work ethic they do.

    Angry Forever Green

Stubbs has learned nothing. The last three games against Falkirk they have scored 5 goals in the last 10 minutes. No team of any worth should let this happen. It was so obvious what Houston would do to chase the game yet Stubbs chose not to strengthen the defence and upfront this continually trying to walk the ball into the net has cost us dear, our goals scored from shots on goal is pathetic....

It's all very well having character and work rate, but that's not going to win you games.
Ultimately, it was our poor finishing & soft defending that cost us dear.

Evidently it does, in this division.

Basic defending tonight & they don't score. They never once ripped us apart. It was all self destructive.

Oh I know, as I was there watching it. Your comments are right, but we have been self destructing for so long under Stubbs by making the same errors time and time again you have to question whether there is a lack of character, belief and leaders in the team.

Best summation I have read. We knew what was coming and Gunnarson and Fontaine on and go one upfront. He was thinking it was going to extra time with the Cummings sub similar to the League Cup game.

Bull ! They had three shots on target and scored three goals . Straight red every time but the cheat doesn't even book him . We were desperately unlucky not to score a third . But go ahead and rip into Stubbs and the players before the Scottish cup final ! Hibs fans ? Pfft really .

    Spot on mate! 👍
Falkirk made their intentions crystal clear with the double sub.
They were no threat whatsoever and were hoping to get a break of the ball in the box. Stubbs could've put height in the box to counter their substitutions immediately, but for some strande reason doesn't see the need to react to their changes.
    Poor game management imo.

That's the point mate. 3 attempts, 3 goals, everyone avoidable.
The cups irrelevant. Promotion was the most important goal.
Nobody's "ripping" into anyone. It's a discussion about how we managed to once again throw a game away.

    Agree 100%

    Very poor management decisions.

Why keep stokes on and take of keatings?

Why not go 1 up front and shut up shop with 10 mins to go?

Naive and basic stuff. Stokes has been a disaster - I hope doesn't play him next week

GGTTH[/QUOTE Agree with this . At 2-1 3-1 always looked more likely than 2-2 and at 2-2 we were the team looking to win in 90 minutes . Falkirk obviously have something since they did something similar against Rangers recently but I find it hard to criticise Hibs players much tonight since we were the better team and deserved to win .

Nonsense. We lost because of very poor defending.

I think when a large number of fans query tactics and misuse of subs over the last few months there has to be something in it. Most of us have watched and /or played the game and in some cases many years. There have only been a few times this season when it was like the old days attacking down the slope and we had that for 30 mins in second half against Falkirk. The passion has gone from our support.

The shots on target all arose from basic defensive mistakes though - that's the point. And why did he not shore the defence up in the last 10/15 mins when the balls were being launched into our box? The guys who could have helped remained on the bench. Poor decision.
