After reading the article about Brandon Walker with tears running down my face it struck me how temporary life can be. With kids of a similar age the story had a huge resonance for me. Anyway, those feelings led me to think that having a stone for the young man in the East would make his love of Hibs permanent even after his life was so tragically cut short. I have no connection with the family so am wary of doing anything which would upset them. It may be that walking past a stone would be a reminder that was too much to bear, particularly at this tender stage of grieving.
I am happy to organise the stone and accept donations. I'm sure the Hibs.net family will easily cover the cost but I need someone who knows the family to get the idea approved. Happy to take suggestions on what the stone says but my idea is that a simple number 14 with Brandon or Walker above it similar to the way a strip is laid out. This would mean the young fellow gets a permanent place at the home of the team he loves. I would also hope that it may give the family another signal that they are not alone in the loss and his story has touched many.

I'll happily contribute. I'm assuming that the donations will far outstrip the cost of the stone so may be worthwhile looking at a charity donation for the balance

Hibee_Girl has kindly given Brandon's sister, Gemma, the heads up on this thread and I will give her a call tomorrow. Hopefully the family will be supportive of the idea and I will update the thread when I know how they feel. It looks like there will be more than enough money for the biggest sized stone. I will ask Gemma if she has any wishes about what to do with any residue but will suggest something to do with Hibs and Kids. Season tickets for someone who couldn't afford to go or along those lines. Thanks All

I have spoken to Gemma, Brandon's sister, and we have the family's permission to get a stone with 14, Brandon written on it. Details will follow when I hear back from Francksuzy who has kindly got a Paypal account that can be used. I think we will just have a suggested donation of a tenner but less or more is fine too. Hopefully we can get a permanent place for Brandon and also another wee Hibee or two supplied with a season ticket. Give generously.

Can anyone wishing to donate please send the donation to eaststandstone@hotmail.co.uk
francksuzy will let me know how the donations are doing as she administers that account. Hopefully we will get enough for the big stone and any surplus will go straight to Kicks for Kids.
