    Ira Polyashova - Hibs Legend

It is with a very heavy heart, and a tear in my eye, that I inform everyone that sadly, after a lengthy battle with cancer, Ira finally passed away last night.

Ira was an inspiration to everyone that has ever been involved with the Dnipro Appeal. She has been involved in everything that we have done .. from our very first visit to the TB Sanatorium ahead of our game against FC Dnipro on the 29th of September 2005, right through to the orphanages trip to Kiev just a couple of weeks ago.

Putting so much passion and love into the Hibernian led charity makes her a Hibs Legend in my eyes.

I've written a small tribute that I put out on our mailing list this afternoon .. I hope it does her justice for the work she has done for our charity over the last 10 years.

Tribute to Ira Polyashova - Rest In Peace
But you know it ain't all about wealth,
as long as you make a note to .. EXPRESS YOURSELF!

Absolutely a Hibs legend. Sounds like an incredible lady and I read the tribute you mailed out with a heavy heart.

I'm sure it will have been of great comfort to her to know that the Dnipro Charity and "our" commitment to it will not fade away now that she's sadly gone.

We can't claim to know this wonderful woman as you do SteveC, but there is no doubt she had a heart the size of a football. From where I'm sitting you're tribute very much gives us an insight into the work she was so dedicated to, and yes, it very much does do her justice.

    Be at peace Ira.

    Thoughts with family and friends.

Sad news .... my condolences to her family and everybody connected with Dnipro Kids who knew her, she was clearly a remarkable woman. Rest in peace Ira.

The great work of the Dnipro charity and those involved with it has brought a lot of good publicity to Hibs as a club and made folk like me just a wee bit more proud to say I'm a Hibs supporter. Its clear that Ira was an integral part of that, it would be nice to think that we could do something this Saturday to honour her memory.

As the OP alluded to, there's more than one way to qualify as a Hibs legend ........ can there be a better way than this.

I believe Aberdeen fans got involved in the appeal too, too late for the clubs to do something tomorrow night?

Very sad, delighted our team was associated with a wee bit of what this lady was about. RIP.

    Rip Ira

The children whose lives you have touched will never forget you and you will always be fondly remembered by the Hibs family.

Well done to you Stevie, no man (or woman) could ask for a better tribute than the one you have bestowed on her.

Hope we do. She deserves a minutes applause/silence after all her work in the Dnipro appeal changing so many young orphanage kids' lives.

RIP never ceases to amaze me how folk can be so strong in the face of death. Did not know her but she obviously carried on until she couldn't any longer.
A true inspiration by all account.
