I did a wee tour of Turkey last week around the Scotland game. The absolute highlight was lunch at the Nusr-Et steakhouse in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Outstanding experience from start to finish. 3 courses and drinks for £100 for two of us (would probably have cost me nearer £500 in any of his other gaffs). Beef Sushi to start, New York and fillet steaks with lots of sides for main and finished off with THE best baklava I've ever tasted with Turkish ice cream.

The food, the service and the theatre all lived up to the hype!

Can anyone recommend a good place for food and beers within walking distance of Waverley station?
Looking for somewhere for a running of 6 former work colleagues.
Somewhere that would be happy for us to stay for 3 or 4 hours (including food).

The news room is decent on Leith Street and very close to Waverley. Alternatively and just as close is The Guildford Arms if you like your real ales.

Good idea! I walked past there last month and thought it looked interesting.

And yes, also good call, we've done The Guildford Arms in the past. Looking for somewhere different.

Mathers at the top of Broughton Street might be worth a try. I believe it changed hands during lockdown.

Never realised that, perhaps they moved the food side of the business to Mathers.

In the last month I've been to-

The Walnut on Leith walk, 3 courses for £32 with only 3 choices for each course but the food was excellent.

Educated flea on Broughton Street for a work do. Had a really good night here, again the food was excellent.

The fountain for lunch. Had the bone in beef pie with chips and veg washed down with a couple of pints of budvar, lovely!

Can also vouch for the Fountain. Had the bone in beef pie before and that was lovely as was the steak sandwich that I had when I was there on Friday.

    That sounds amazing.

I've been to Turkey several times, but never Istanbul apart from the airport, so I'll try to remedy that next year

Bit late in responding to this but I got takeaway Pizza and chicken sides a couple of times after it first opened.

The first time got pizza which was tasty but luke warm. The JFC Chicken with hot sauce and chips was brilliant.

Decided to give it a second go on basis of the chicken. Same result, cold pizza, great chicken.

Think their pizza style with thin base better enjoyed fresh than via delivery. Prob wouldn't get pizza from there again as a result.

Cool Jade Chinese opposite the Zoo last night. Food was decent enough and service was great. Coffee machine was broken so only filter coffee available for our guests which wasn’t a massive problem. Both the wife and I chose our usual liqueur coffees to finish, my Brandy coffee and her Tia Maria one were probably the weakest in alcohol tasting liqueur coffees we have ever had. Also found the dining room quite dark and had to use torch on my phone to read the menu.
Overall ranking this place in my recent Chinese restaurant visits is :

    1.Karen’s Unicorn
    2. Chinese Manor House
    3. Cool Jade

To have two pretty decent Chinese restaurants in Corstorphine is ideal.

I love the Manor House, been to Cool Jade twice (though both were a few years back), and wasn’t impressed enough to try it a third time.

I’ve eaten at Gleneagles Town House and Gurkha Cafe in the last few days. Would recommend both.

Gleneagles Town House is lovely inside. I had the steak tartare and then the cod. Very very good.

Was at Rollo on Broughton Street last weekend. Brilliant as always (although not as good as the now closed Stockbridge one was unfortunately).
