    2014 Davis Cup final

The final of the Davis Cup is held this weekend between France and Switzerland. The first match today is between Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Stan Wawrinka. It looks as if Switzerland will go 1-0 up in the tie as Wawrinka has just taken the first set 6-1.

Roger Federer is looking to win the Davis Cup for the first time in his career and he plays Gael Monfils later on.

Tsonga levelled things after winning the second set 6-3 and has also saved two set points in the third set on his own serve.

Wawrinka now serving for the third set at 5-3.

Wawrinka wins the third set 6-3.

Switzerland one set away from winning the first tie.

Wawrinka wins three sets to one to put Switzerland 1-0 up.

    Federer-Monfils on shortly.

Monfils is on fire right now, racing through the opening set 6-1.

Perhaps Federer's injury from last week is worse than originally thought.

I think if Switzerland had a decent number three to call upon then Federer may not even have played this week.

Looks like being 1-1 at the end of the first day as Monfils is now two sets up on Federer.

Monfils plays one of the matches of his career, winning 6-1 6-4 6-3.

I wonder if that might be Federer's last match of the season.

He clearly needs to rest that back injury in case he aggravates it any more.

Switzerland are on the brink of winning the Davis Cup for the first time after Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka beat Julien Benneteau and Richard Gasquet in straight sets this afternoon in the doubles tie.

Federer will now take on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the first of tomorrow's singles matches and, if required, the fifth and final rubber will be between Wawrinka and Gael Monfils.

Switzerland won the Davis Cup for the first time in their history and, as a result, Roger Federer wins one of the only major tournaments that had eluded him during his career.

Federer won the decisive rubber against Richard Gasquet, who replaced Jo-Wilfried Tsonga due to injury.

The final match between Wawrinka and Monfils was cancelled as the Swiss had an unassailable lead.

The 2014 season is now at an end and the players are now off for a very short break before the 2015 season begins in around five weeks' time.
