I'm really not sure who is the most irritating out of this lot, was just interested to see other people's views.

Mark Lawrenson by a mile imo. The English Willie Miller who loves the sound of his own voice despite it being a turgid, grating fountain of pish. Soul destroyingly bad summariser.

The top three, IMO are Clive Tyldsley, Clive Tyldsley and then Clive Tyldsley. No in any order right enough.

Clive Tyldsley does my head iin big time. He and Adrian Durham on Talk Sport are the two reasons I want England to lose every single football match they ever play.

I despise Ian Wright with a passion, just the absolute stereotypical English w**ker

On a separate issue, I was also wondering if either Townsend or Lawrenson have ever referred to England as 'we', as they both played for Rep of Ireland.?

I find it utterly bizarre that during a World Cup which so far has been pretty good that commentators even rate a mention!
I treat commentators the same way I treat chants or songs from opposition fans, I never really listen to them and can't for the life of me understand how or why people get so wound up by them.

May as well ask what kind of piles are the worst. Big ones, small ones, medium ones. They all irritate and are a pain in the backside.
Anyway I've gone for Lawro. He obviously gets all his shirts in sales which only have a day to go and only have XXX Large ones left.

Where is the "all of the above" option?
I usually turn the commentary off and just watch the game.

Lucky we don't have to listen to these guys on ESPN coverage. I've seen Van Nistleroy, Michael Ballack and a few ex USA players. Nobody has annoyed me so far. The best pundit for me has been Roberto Martinez who gives great tactical insight. Steve McManaman is also very good co-commentating as a former player but one who is a real football fan quick to criticize referee decisions.

Townsend as a commentator and Ian Wright as a pundit - both bloody awful.
Of course, Michael Owen is worse still but no BT Sport coverage to worry about - as someone once said, he is like listening to paint dry.

Although I never thought that much of him as a player, and I'm certainly not a Man U fan, I actually think Gary Neville is a good football analyst and not biased at all.

It's a shame that Paul Merson is not a pundit for the BBC or ITV as his pronunciations of any foreign player are a thing to behold.
