    Dennis Bergkamp statue

    Unveiled today: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/foo...er-League.html

Bergkamp is my all-time favourite player, an absolute magician.

Agree the statue itself is not the best.

Football statues are crap full stop. Once you start, there's no stopping. Celtic Park is starting to look like an extension of the Necropolis.

I thought the statue was the McDonald's clown at first.

I think the statue's pose may be trying to capture the moment he killed a through lob before dispatching the ball into the net for his (IMO) best goal ever.

See the end of this video ....

Ideally, they'd have a series of statues representing a stop-motion version of this:

Thank you so much for posting that I am going to get a bottle of champagne and think about a suitable response.

Not to a statute but to a precious talent.

    great player though

Arsenal having a statue of Bergkamp is almost as crazy as ManUre paying Rooney £300k per week. No idea how they work thing down that way but they must have hundreds of statues around their ground if he's the latest to be getting one .

Bergkamp was an absolutely brilliant player.

Up there with Cantona and Henry as the best foreigner to grace British shores.

Could be a meringue but I think it's 4. Chapman, Adams, Henry and Bergkamp. Wenger will undoubtedly join them eventually.

This fad for statues is becoming tacky and tasteless. Football clubs are tarting their stadia up to look like drug dealers mansions. Does the Emirates have a bowling alley next to the changing rooms?

Longest-ago one that I can remember is Billy Bremner's. I think that was put up after he died quite young - I don't think his death was drug-related though, and Leeds weren't financially doped at that time.

On a related note, Alex Miller wouldn't pay Crewe 100 k for Platt. Or was that Petrie?

You think? If he's entitled to a statue then what about the likes of Brady, Vieira, Wright, Seaman and even George Graham? All Arsenal legends are they not.

Yes, I do think. You can argue about whether clubs should be chucking up statues of players, but if any Arsenal player deserves one then Bergkamp does. A unique talent. Pretty sure that if you polled Arsenal fans, they'd agree.

In your previous post you had 'hundreds' that would merit a statue before Bergkamp. This leads me to believe that you don't know what you're talking about.

All about class. Bergkamp was head and shoulders above most players when it came to that.

. Aye very good, 100s might have been a bit of an exaggeration but he wouldn't get near my top 10 arsenal legends. All about opinions and that.

Graham managed Spurs and got caught on the take, no chance of him getting one IMO. Cases can of course be made for the rest but Bergkamp was a lot more than a player for Arsenal, he was a symbol of what the club has grown into during Wengers time in charge a bit like Sauzee was for us, a lot more than just a great player.

Ahhh the non-flying dutchman, even as a Tottenham sympathiser I don't have a negative word to say about this guy, sublime football player.
