Trying to end a, quite frankly, stupid argument but....

Does anyone remember the team in England who have a song that is sung to the tune of sh*te sh*te glorious sh*te?

Im sure I remember a youtube video of it but cant for the life of me recall the team.

    Told you it was stupid...

If you're interested, the original song is Mud Mud Glorious Mud, aka The Hippopotamus Song. Popularised by Flanders & Swann.

"The Old Orange Flute" is a classic as it can be read both ways. The flute gets burned but is defiant to the end. Probably a 400 page thread on FollowFollow and Kerrydale Street with each side claiming it

I've had a long standing debate with a yam friend about this - he swears that they "aren't all that similar", and that the hearts song is an original song. i think this is pish.

I've always understood The Hearts Song to be based on the tune of The Old Orange Flute, though in fairness to Hector Nicholl he put in some shift coming up with the lyrics for the many football songs he wrote (inc GGTTH) so I'll let him off with lifting the tunes (inc GGTTH). TOOF was originally a tongue in cheek "republican" song though the lyrics are, as Bishop Hibee says, open to interpretation so it has also been 'claimed' by the loyalists. Shame that we keep making distinctions like that.

The tune was also used for this wee ditty about Nigel Farage's visit last year. I won't go into the politics of it but it is mildly amusing: https://soundcloud.com/byrnesteve/la...predicament-of

EDIT: The guy who came up with the Farage song, though, claims it's based on "The Wee Magic Stane": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKI8wwvY5mA

Nope. Very similar in places, but it's not the Flanders and Swann tune.

I think it's really a sort of bas******ised combination of a whole lot of different tunes (all rather similar) put together to make up the disgusting rant we all know and loathe.

And I'll bet the original writers weren't paid royalties, either.

The one Nicol wrote for the Hibees, of course, is sung to the tune "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" which is in the public domain and therefore not subject to royalties.

The hymn to that tune - "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord" is a curiously popular one at funerals where the deceased is (was?) a Hibs supporter. I've told my son I want it sung at my service, and he and all close friends will be required to sing the Hibees version of the chorus after the last verse or they winnae get any tea!

Note to admins: "bas******ised" is NOT a sweary word. Look it up in the dictionary if you don't believe me.

On a similar theme, i was in ocean terminal last night (i cant stand shopping centre's) but i was under orders...

Anyway walked in and the first thing i noticed was the background music, it was Three Lions, skinner and badiel (euro 96 engerland theme). What i couldn't understand is who would have thought that was even close to being a suitable song, era etc. it was probably part of a NOW vol 244 but still it was just odd!
