I was just reading that there was some trouble at the Preston Athletic v Queens Park game at the weekend. On this ocassion, it amounted to a large number of local youths throwing smoke bombs onto the pitch and then having a pitch invasion. The players had to be taken off the field until police restored order.
Add this to the recent Celtic/The Rangers youth cup tie, the disruption at the juniors game at the weekend and recents incidents at Hibs, Hearts, Motherwell, etc, does anyone think this is the beginning of a new trend of bother at matches or is it just some isolated incidents that will come to nothing?
To me, it appears to be youths trying to imitate what they have seen on the continent, with flares, smoke bombs etc, and maybe wishing to have some notoriety of their own. As I said, it may be a storm in a teacup but the situation in many countries where Ultras and the like are now well established is actually getting out of hand. I'd hate to see it going this way in Scotland.

Majority of the folk causing trouble at the preston game were hibs fans. Embarrassing

We shouldn't become complacent but I'd hope this was just an isolated incident.
Just because use it may be easier to execute than at a typically policed match I think the chances of being caught are probably a bit higher esp if censure of the clubs are such that the regulars identify those responsible for fear of further damage to the club."We know the people who have invested so far are simple fans." Folk going on the pitch etc shouldn't happen. At the Preston game I'd imagine it was just all young laddies all tanked up that never actually go to Preston games.
The other side of things just opens up the whole flare debate again. Some folk don't mind them and some do. Personally they don't bother me but I could see why other folk would be against them.
The OP is right, I think it's just folk trying to copy the ultra scene from abroad. Atmosphere is renowned as being better overseas, which it is in my experience. I think people want to replicate some of that here instead of sitting in our soulless stadiums. That doesn't go for the Preston game, I mean what the likes of the Motherwell fans do and what we frequently see at away games.Last edited by B.H.F.C; 14-10-2013 at 12:35 PM.

Watched an amateur cup game on Saturday and young Hibs fans were at it with the smoke bombs. I blame FIFA and EUFA. Weekend Internationals and the domestic breaks they cause have no place in football.

Oh and they are not Preston fans according to the locals that watch the team every week. David Gold played for Queens btw and was probably the best player on the park.

My dad said he was at a game and in the stand where Celtic fans chunted tear gas at hibs fans at Easter Road. I can't remember when he said it happened.

I think we should be overreacting to those incidents with tougher laws, more draconian policing and sentencing, tighter security measures, and the much higher taxes that follow this privilege of living in a police state.

Incredible reporting. "The match referee temporarily abandoned the game after a group of 10 fans invaded the pitch at half time" Why would a game be stopped for something that happened at half time?? The game was stopped when Preston scored 5 minutes into the 2nd half and it wasn't the invasion of the 10 x 10 year olds that caused the ref to call a halt it either. It was the adult Muppets that were ushered from the ground for the fireworks / smoke bombs they threw.

Imagine letting off a smokebomb and having a sly bevvy at a Juniors park during a huge game in your hometown. Disgusting, hang them.

The 'incidents' on Saturday were totally blown out the water, just a group of young laddies having a laugh at a football game.
Those arrests were nout to do with the group of young ones.
The 'pitch invasion' was about 15 young lads running about the 18 yard box having a laugh, one even ran up to the goalie for a bit banter and he laughed it off. No need for the game to be stopped at any time! It was the police that walked on to the park and forced the ref to stop the game so they could escort the 'hooligans' out.
Probably the best atmosphere a Preston game has ever seen and all the locals/officials do is moan...

I feel sorry for the club who will possibly be hit with large fines eliminating any revenue made as result of having such a glamour tie on their own patch

You'd get none of this in Tranent, moan the belters.
on serious notes 140 days in jail for next to nothing, and boys supporting there local team for the day whilst hibs/hearts or whatever old firm they support arnt playing. Bevvy with your pals and a wee singsong is how football should be.
