Was tempted but can't stretch to £60 for my pre-match dinner. Will have to settle for a pint, a bag of crisps and the philosophical reflections of Kano behind the bar in the Four in Hand

    From the official site...

Irvine will... deliver a short reading from his novel, Filth.
Most splendid, both racism and sectarianism (not to mention drugs, sex, and pornography) all before kick-off.

    That's worth £60 of anyone's money.

Anyone read porno? He dedicates it Frank Sauzee and there is a bit in it where a ticket number is 0762. I smiled a lot when reading.

Just finished reading it and yeah I seen the bit where he dedicated it to Sauzee.

Also thought Porno was better than Skagboys and Trainspotting

Only really rate trainspotting and skag boys his other books are average at best.

Cracking day at the hospitality with him doing a reading , although there was a Q & A and quite embarrassing when a woman said " you can't be a true Hibs fan if you'll not invest some of your money in the club", nae need !

He never did better than Maribou Stork Nightmares in my opinion. I stopped reading him a while back because he was getting repetitive so im not sure if his new ones represent a return to form.

It was nice to see a man of the match award that bore at least a passing resemblance to accuracy as well. Irvine knows his football.

I really had to fight my way through skag boys. Don't think it's Irvine's story telling ability that was at fault but rather my taste has changed. It was never the stories that I enjoyed in his books, more the dialogue and that was probably only due to my expat situation.

Marabou Stork Nightmares is a fantastic book. Really dark but with some great comedy as well.

Always thought it would make an outstanding film if it had the right budget and was done properly.

Only Welsh books i really didn't enjoy are Porno (more a sequel to the film than the book imo) and Bedroom Secrets of the Masterchefs (ok but not great).
PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017. Probably robbed in other years

    Is that you Irvine?

Hard to explain my opinion. Not saying they are bad books difficult to follow trainspotting it's a classic skag boys comes close others are just not up to there standard.

Marabou is good on places found porno didn't really click with me.

twould be a great film. I dunno how you'd cast the protagonist though...youd need an uglier, more jugeared version of Ewen Bremner?

Ooooh bollah, I'll need to point this out to EB when I see him next....funny enough I couldn't go to the game yesterday and met him with his ex missus at a local event. I think it's panavision cameras that make his lugs look like Billy Dodds'

Im sure EB is a modern day Cary Grant in 2013...I just cant see past him as Spud though. Stevie Fulton would be a great shout to play Roy Strang in Maribou The Movie though...

    Was going to say Glue.

    The good books IMO are:-

    Trainspotting
    Porno
    Skag Boys
    Filth
    Maribu Stork Nightmares
