Is HW £1.50? I thought it had to be £2.05 now due to minimum pricing?

    Need to investigate that.

Lidl do a cider for a bit less in a bottle which is made by HW, worth a look, although I can't remember the name of it off top of my head.
Haha unfortunately, as Lord B pointed out, that offer was 6 years ago.

Interesting to note dark fruits was described as "new" - I couldn't have told you when it first came out but it's pretty main stream now I would say, most bars have it on draft I've found.
    Mon the Hibs.

I like a session on Old Rosie, goes down a treat far too easily.

Very old thread but need help form you cider drinkers. Never been a big fan always the bitter aftertaste that got me but I’m just back from Portugal and has some Sommersby cider and it changed my life!!

Stuff was amazing tasted like Appletiser with no bitter aftertaste. I believe it’s made by Carlsberg but it’s not widely available in the UK and the stuff they make here is slightly different.

Anything drinkers able to recommend similar ciders available here?
Somersby is so sugary, it’s essentially an apple flavoured alcopop.

I started making turbo cider a few years ago and really enjoy doing that. Its easy and cheap to make once you gather the demijohns, airlocks etc. I began by making straight apple cider from shop bought apple juice, but after reading some online brewing tips, I've made apple/cranberry, and also apple/mango cider.

One demijohn produces 9 x 500 ml bottles of around 6% abv cider
I love tweaking the recipes to suit my own tastes and its very enjoyable

Give it a try, you might be pleasantly surprised at the outcome ;-)

I have 4 apple trees and made cider from scratch last year, very dry but more my taste than the shop bought cider. This year there are fewer apples but I'm thinking of inclusion of blackcurrants which we also have in abundance.
There is no such thing as too much yarn, just not enough time.

There's a few pubs, like the Windsor, that sell Symonds which I like.

    Aspall is also very nice.

The Harp and Castle used to sell normal Strongbow which I drank because I liked the pub. They took that out some time ago and that only left the fruit version on draft. I've hardly been back since.

I’m currently enjoying a few Henry Weston’s, nice but a bit strong at 8.2%.

Sounds great MY and there's nothing quite as satisfying as drinking a home made beer or cider that you've made yourself eh ;-)

I've used blueberry/blackberry/raspberry along with apple juice and they all taste good. I reckon if you start with just a small amount of berries, then add more next time etc, you'll soon find the level you like most.

Is that home brew shop still open on Elgin Terrace? I quite fancy having a go at making my own cider.

    No.

It moved up to somewhere around South Clerk Street, I think opposite the Queens Hall a few years ago.

If you fancy trying to make some turbo cider using demijohns, I'll happily pass you on a couple of easy recipes for you to try out :-)

I know this probably won't really help any if you looking for decent ciders but I can't even stand the smell of it. Drank way to much Merrydown when I was 14/15 and can't touch the stuff now. 🤮🤮🤮
