Please God let today be the day they die. I think we'd have to make May 3rd a public holiday in Leith!

Is it really 27 years, seems like yesterday. What a fantastic weekend that was, will never forget that day as long as I live, being picked up and hugged by an old man with a walking stick, fans going wild, Hibs players celebrating and D.Utd going up the pitch and scoring, nobody gave a s--- about the goal in a meaningless game, funny thing is, most Hibs fans thought hertz would just turn up and walk all over Dundee. To think they could well be outdone again by Dundee when hertz go to the wall. Its a funny old world innit.
    Happy 27th anniversary,

    Arise, Sir Walter of Kidd.

Spolier - 7:(0) minutes into the video and with 7:(0) minutes to go in the game ...... the great man pops up.

I had left the game early, had a radio stuck to my ear walking along Albion Place, just remember jumping about shouting 'Dundee have scored!!' and hearing the cheer from the stadium.......

Smith made one of the best saves I've seen at 0-0, then Sir Albert came on…

I'm well versed on the Hearts side of things but what did that game mean to Dundee? Did them winning save them from the drop or qualify for Europe or something or were their players and fans celebrating so enthusiastically as a GIRUY as the Yams were loved as much by other Scottish teams then as they are today?

PS - loving the fashion of the "casuals" back then. Pastile coloured thin pringle type golf style jumpers. Grey or white lightweight trousers, again looking a bit golfy.

Think it was just the idea that they had prevented Hearts from winning the title on their ground. Would have been the same for any team.

In the great scheme of things, the Dee fans would probably have preferred Hearts to win the league over Celtic or Rangers, but not on their patch.

    Just a perfect day
    Drink sangria in the park
And then later, when it gets dark
    We go home

    Just a perfect day
    Feed animals in the zoo
    Then later a movie, too
    And then home

Oh, it's such a perfect day
I'm glad I spent it with you
    Oh, such a perfect day
You just keep me hanging on
You just keep me hanging on

    Just a perfect day
    Problems all left alone
    Weekenders on our own
    It's such fun

    Just a perfect day
    You made me forget myself
I thought I was someone else
    Someone good

Oh, it's such a perfect day
I'm glad I spent it with you
    Oh, such a perfect day
You just keep me hanging on
You just keep me hanging on

You're going to reap just what you sow
You're going to reap just what you sow
You're going to reap just what you sow
You're going to reap just what you sow

If only there was clip of THAT game V D'dee Utd at Easter Road on THAT day - it would maybe help show younger Hibees of the joys of THAT day !!

Official Sir Albert Kidd day song? It's called 86, it's by Green Day and contains the opening lyric:

"What brings you around? Did you lose something the last time you were here?"

Agreed. I was in the East terrace that day with my cousin and when the news came through It was mayhem. lol. Hibs/Utd players virtually stopped playing to view the madness on the terraces. Good times

    Wish there was.

I can only go on the stories told by Hibees that were at the game, my dad wasn't but was still a happy man. May be too young to have experienced this brilliant year but it will be celebrated by me none the less.

Forgivable mistake - I've a feeling that Walter may have been the centre of events the following week - didn't he lift the cup or something?

Dundee needed to win to have a chance of the UEFA cup IRRC but were pipped by Rangers who qualified by finishing 6th...again IRRC.

Even though I was 14 at the time, I still remember it fondly......Remember a massive roar in terracing, one of our player's actually stopped playing, due to the roar

Everyone singing and dancing, I got back to Longstone, bought a huge bag of chocolate fudge, and waited at chippy for the merrick's in my class, to get back, so I could rip the total pish out of them......

Still makes me smile, happy days indeed......

I kinda wish a Russ Abbott look-a-like had scored a couple, then we could have sang "I love a party with a happy atmosphere"

Having not been born until two years later, I'm not up to speed with it all.

Who is this Sir Albert Kidd you speak of and why is he of such importance on a Hibs fansite?

  31. #30
You've given him the wrong title. We call him SAINT Albert Kidd!
