Going to the hearts match with my girlfriend for her 2nd Hibs match, was wondering if to get student tickets do we prove it at the gate, or do we have to do it when we buy the tickets?

You show it to them when you buy your tickets mate. If you're booking online that means you have to go pick them up from the ticket office as they won't send them out to you.

Fair enough, when is the latest before the game the ticket office is open, because I think I'm heading up the night before (I live in England)

Make sure you both have your student cards with you when picking up the tickets. I went to pick up tickets for me and a friend recently, and couldn't get them both without showing both mine and his student card.
