Was browsing Thursdays guardian website and came across this report about Spanish football.
http://m.guardian.co.uk/football/201...football-clubs
According to some mp in Spain the only clubs not due millions to the government are Real Madrid, Barcelona and athletico balbio
That's shocking if true, emergency service workers having to take pay cuts and others losing their jobs while clubs throw money at the latest star payed for by the government.

Spanish leagues close to shutting down???

Barcelona and Real Madrid are part of the problem, their greed concerning the TV money and how it works is killing other clubs. A fairer deal like in the premier league and it wouldn't be half as bad.

Barca and Real have taken a fair amount from their local government in their time.

I hope all of those with Messi shirts are proud. You've made the big two that powerful that the Spanish government would rather let other clubs slide into debt than stand up and demand a fairer league. To think, they were only trying to preserve the status of La Liga.
It's been the old firm with added sun for years now. Knock yourself out.

The admiration of Messi is not a) anything to feel guilty about nor b) the factor responsible for the state of the Spanish game.

Why should the players not be seen in the same light as other over-inflated salaried fat-cats?
Again I say failure of the football authorities to ensure the sustainability of their respective leagues. Shocking!"We know the people who have invested so far are simple fans." Vladimir Romanov - Scotsman 10th December 2012

Lemmings chasing the football money. No one can afford to be relegated few can afford what it takes to keep up with the other lemmings. *
In a position that crazy I'm not sure even the Tache would find a safe haven and dropping down a division to operate sensibly in a less febrile environment would ensue.
*incidently this is something alluded to by a blogger an Everton who had/has grave concerns for his club despite high attendances historically. The 200 percenters. Aptly named - spend more than they get in."We know the people who have invested so far are simple fans." Vladimir Romanov - Scotsman 10th December 2012

When the rest of them go bankrupt do the two who caused it play each other every week or join some European super league?

When you consider the dodgy dealings the Spanish Government has done for Real Madrid in the past, there really should be an investigation ongoing into corruption in that country.
Oh and there's no such thing as austerity at Real and Barcelona. They just go on paying ridiculous sums of money for players, while getting even deeper in debt. If FIFA ever do get round to their 'fair play' rules, Spain would be a good place to start. Somehow I can't see it though.

The strength of the EPL is in the numbers, if there was a choice between the status quo or a new TV deal where the clubs could negotiate themselves, I know what the big clubs (Man U,Arsenal,Liverpool etc) would choose and it wouldn't be parity to maintain a competitive league.

I hope it does go down the tubes, public service workers getting shafted so clubs can pay players £110k a week? They should get what they deserve.

So most Spanish clubs are heavy in debt and don't have a pot to pee in.
I was wondering why a Spanish team had signed Alan Hutton. All is a bit clearer now.

Total basket case of a Club but they seem to survive , somehow.
I go to see them when I'm on holiday, the stadium is owned by the local council. Not a great atmosphere but has bars where you buy drink any time during the game.

Players are very greedy and you never hear of any that i can think of taking wage cuts to stop the club they play for from folding.
Hearts are a perfect example, none came out and said they would take a pay cut and allowed fans to put there own money into the club so they could get paid crazy wages, very poor show from them

People would be running about with messi and ronaldo tops regardless of what deal the said clubs have been given by sky tv, clearly wasn't the point the poster was making. In general the amount of ppl that buy the barca real tops have already gave the two a massive financial advantage and then sky tv televise there games week in week out. You can't win though, ppl want to watch the best players, who'd watch miniaro v Mallorca, seriously? Spanish football has been heading the same way as the spl for years IMO. Before sky it just came down to gate reciepts to an extent, sky has effectivly killed la liga IMO

Aye Real and Barca are great clubs and are amazing to watch but having been to the city of Barcelona several times i have to say that the comercialisation of Barca is sickening. To see thousands of gormless clowns from Broughty Ferry to Buenos Aires fawn about in Messi 10 shirts does my head in!
I made the decision a while back to look out for Espanyol and their results as they are everything Barca aint, and i don't mean politics or cultural stuff. They are really built into the community, they have a great stadium which makes a great atmosphere and if things were just a little bit fairer they would have a chance.
When I was last in Barce last September, having made the trip out to Cornella de Llobregat (where Espanyol play) I got the shirt and wore it out in the city centre that night. Now this was the night before the Catalan Independence march which brought about 2 million into the city centre, so its fair to say there was a buzz about the place that night! I expected some banter and yeah i did get a lot of stick from lots of young Catalan nationals but loads of guys were giving me the thumbs up, shaking my hand and giving me the Spannish 'on yer sell wee man' which was great.
The point is that FC Barcelona has totally hijacked the political scene and they say to be a catalan you have to be a Bacrca fan, which that night was proven to be wrong.
This is the king of **** the old firm do, so for that i really don't like FCB.
