Was browsing Thursdays guardian website and came across this report about Spanish football.

According to some mp in Spain the only clubs not due millions to the government are Real Madrid, Barcelona and athletico balbio

That's shocking if true, emergency service workers having to take pay cuts and others losing their jobs while clubs throw money at the latest star payed for by the government.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and their glory-hunting "admirers" from around the world are the problem and it has come home to roost. These two clubs have been allowed to dictate terms and clubs have overstretched to survive, never mind keep up.

I hope all of those with Messi shirts are proud. You've made the big two that powerful that the Spanish government would rather let other clubs slide into debt than stand up and demand a fairer league. To think, they were only trying to preserve the status of La Liga.

Sorry to sound all tabloid but if this period of austerity does not lead to a significant readjustment for football salaries then they never will be adjusted. Unless clubs start falling like dominoes.

Why should the players not be seen in the same light as other over-inflated salaried fat-cats?

Again I say failure of the football authorities to ensure the sustainability of their respective leagues. Shocking!

When you consider the dodgy dealings the Spanish Government has done for Real Madrid in the past, there really should be an investigation ongoing into corruption in that country.

Oh and there's no such thing as austerity at Real and Barcelona. They just go on paying ridiculous sums of money for players, while getting even deeper in debt. If FIFA ever do get round to their 'fair play' rules, Spain would be a good place to start. Somehow I can't see it though.

The EPL was started to get more TV money from the game and shaft the football league clubs at the same time. It even led to them removing themselves from the FL and going under the banner of the FA premier league. The FA part was just a ruse to make it look credible.

The strength of the EPL is in the numbers, if there was a choice between the status quo or a new TV deal where the clubs could negotiate themselves, I know what the big clubs (Man U,Arsenal,Liverpool etc) would choose and it wouldn't be parity to maintain a competitive league.

That's right for Real Mallorca. They have gone bust about 4 times in the last 7 years, new owners, old owners in the Spanish Clink, The tennis player Nadal put money in a few years ago but he has refused any more financial support.
Total basket case of a Club but they seem to survive , somehow.
I go to see them when I'm on holiday, the stadium is owned by the local council. Not a great atmosphere but has bars where you buy drink any time during the game.

Only one example I can think of is Borussia Dortmund. Every player got asked to take a 20% wage cut when they were close to going bust however I think all if not most of the big wage foreign guys said no but the cheaper German players said yes. Foreign players were all let go and said German players got a lot more game time and fans loved them.

In general the amount of ppl that buy the barca real tops have already gave the two a massive financial advantage and then sky tv televise there games week in week out. You can't win though, ppl want to watch the best players, who'd watch miniaro v Mallorca, seriously? Spanish football has been heading the same way as the spl for years IMO. How much money do you think sky give to la liga? It will be a drop in the ocean when compared to the overall revenue of the big 2. La liga games are shown all around the world the same as premiership games. Sky will be paying the same as the Irish or Belgian tv companies pay for spanish football

I feel sickened to the fact I have been to the Camp Nou past 2 years and going again this year, have bought a Barca top and watch them every weekend..

Aye Real and Barca are great clubs and are amazing to watch but having been to the city of Barcelona several times i have to say that the comercialisation of Barca is sickening. To see thousands of gormless clowns from Broughty Ferry to Buenos Aires fawn about in Messi 10 shirts does my head in!
I made the decision a while back to look out for Espanyol and their results as they are everything Barca aint, and i don't mean politics or cultural stuff. They are really built into the community, they have a great stadium which makes a great atmosphere and if things were just a little bit fairer they would have a chance.

When I was last in Barce last September, having made the trip out to Cornella de Llobregat (where Espanyol play) I got the shirt and wore it out in the city centre that night. Now this was the night before the Catalan Independence march which brought about 2 million into the city centre, so its fair to say there was a buzz about the place that night! I expected some banter and yeah i did get a lot of stick from lots of young Catalan nationals but loads of guys were giving me the thumbs up, shaking my hand and giving me the Spannish 'on yer sell wee man' which was great.
The point is that FC Barcelona has totally hijacked the political scene and they say to be a catalan you have to be a Bacrca fan, which that night was proven to be wrong.
This is the king of **** the old firm do, so for that i really don't like FCB.
