Alan Maybury is swapping his football boots for jogging trainers next month (7 October) when he plans to take part in the BUPA Edinburgh 10k in order to raise funds for Maggie's.
The former Republic of Ireland defender has decided to go the extra mile for Maggie's Cancer Caring Centre, which is situated at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh.
So far Maybury has raised over £500 since announcing he will be participating in the charity run via his Twitter account (@TeddyMaybs) and says he is aiming to raise much more before he sets off on his run.
Maybury said: "Maggie's have helped our family a lot recently and we greatly appreciate everything they've done, so this was my way of saying thanks and hopefully raise some money for a really worthwhile cause.
"The response from my team-mates and supporters has been great so far and hopefully we can raise a substantial sum to help Maggie's."
Alan's daughter Grace will also be running the Bupa Edinburgh 1.5k for the same charity, so please support their efforts and help to raise funds for a superb cause.
Anybody wishing to support Maybury's Run For Maggie's can do so via athttp://www.justgiving.com/alan-maybury or by texting MAGG 81 followed by the amount to 70070.
Just as it says in the post.

With all the negative press players get, Alan is doing something to fly in the face of that negative image. £20 winging its way to Alan's just giving site. An excellent cause.

As a fellow-traveller on the 'Big C journey' I've just made a donation to Alan Maybury's appeal and hope he raises tousands and tousands for the Maggie's Centres.
Can I add that our friend Sexton has a thread going on 'The Dug Out' about his wee 2 year old niece Roma (who has the most appealing brown eyes) - I've just bumped it to the top. Bear that appeal in mind if you can!

Alan's a great guy, gave me a Retweet to help Sponsor my Brother for him doing an 80 Mile Cycle for Childrens Aid !
I have a lot of time for Alan, My old man is still stuck in his "Once a Jambo always a Jambo" ways. I'll teach him eventually !

Aw jings! Now you've done it. You've used the 'T' word on the Internet.
You do realise that somewhere in the Pentagon a computer screen's flashing a Red Alert, and even now the CIA, Special Branch and MI5 are on the way?
Better start running right now, mate.
It's just lucky I've recently taken out Ecuadorian citizenship.

My daughter is also taking part in the 10k it will be her 4th. of the summer anyone wishing to contribute see Kirstys 30k on just giving. Good on Alan and all the others taking part for charities. I know 4 x 10 is 40 but she was only going to do 3 originally.
