The Scottish club is currently training in New Zealand, the club free Nieveld already trains with the selection of Hibernian them. The former youth international acts in the coming days in talks with Hibernian in an attempt to reach agreement on a contract. Also English Peterborough United, a club from the English Championship, has already shown interest.

Nieveld is a free transfer after his contract with Feyenoord last summer was not renewed. The 23-year-old defender was invariably the last three seasons for Excelsior. The shirt he Kralingers to 95 league games."

Do you perchance remember the late Professor Stanley Unwin? I don't know WHAT the last two sentences mean at all.

Mind you, we ARE going to play in Zeeland soon, and it's very possible that Pat has arranged a trial for the lad.

A classic case of Google Translate spitting out 'double dutch'. A rough translation of the first line would be

"De Schotse club is momenteel op trainingskamp in Zeeland...."

"The Scottish club are currently on a training camp in Zeeland"

In Dutch New Zealand is 'Nieuw Zeeland' (iirc). Hope that clears everything up.

"De 23-jarige verdediger kwam de laatste drie seizoenen steevast uit voor Excelsior. In het shirt van de Kralingers kwam hij tot 95 competitiewedstrijden."

    The above roughly translates to:

"The 23 year-old defender has spent the last 3 seasons on loan at Excelsior. He made a total of 95 competitive appearances for 'de Kranlingers' (Excelsior)."

If we do sign him then surely one of the other cb's will be going. I felt this was an area where we had enough cover: Clancy, O'Hanlon, Mcpake, Hanlon, Stephens & Forster.

I guessed it was Google gargling the translation.

95 appearances in three years means he's a reasonably seasoned professional for his age.

Excelsior are a bit of a yo-yo club at the bottom of the Eredivisie (relegated again last season) but even the bottom of that league's better than the bottom half of the SPL.

    Interesting.

Any chance of a translation of the translation?

I'm surprised we're going for another defender tbh, we are crying out for midfielders and strikers.

As we have cover at CB it makes you wonder if he is looking to get a fee for Hanlon which could go to re-building.

We'll need cover at the back now that Murray has gone, O'Hanlon told to go and Stevens not maybe making the grade yet, if w e have an injury or suspension, then we look very thin at the back.

I hope so, I'd take any kind of fee for PH, within reason.

Has O'Hanlon not been told that he can go if he finds a club?

I think Fenlon wants to play Hanlon at left back, and would like a good solid centre half to partner McPake.

I get that impression too. Have a feeling PF rates PH as a player but is maybe not fully convinced about him at CB as yet. Just played him there last season as he did not rate the alternatives, messers O'Hanlon and Stephens.

Never heard of this guy but if PF's general idea is to bring in another CB then I would be happy as feel that O'Hanlon and Stephens should be moved on. PF being linked with CBs tends to indicate that he feels the same.

Would be happy to go into the new season with McPake, A New Signing and a promoted youngster as our CBs with Hanlon and Clancy also in the mix for cover if needs be.

Do like the way PF appears to be attempting to get a good level of quality and quantity sorted at the back as it is often said that successful teams get that sorted first and foremost, something which Hibs has a club often fails to do. Though he will be well aware we need strengthened all over the park. Some quality in midfield and we need both quality and quantity up front as we are currently looking at Doyle and young lads there. Doyle could do ok but the jury is out on him at this level and he can't do it all on his own.

Or consider Clancy & Hanlon as our full backs, consider Booth as only a LM, and punt Kujabi.

Only way he'll find a club is if he looks in his golf bag
    This is how it feels

So if we do sign Nieveld our defence will be this?

    Hanlon - McPake - Nieveld - Clancy

This will leave the reserves of: Booth, Smith, O'Hanlon (if he can't find a club) and the young player Stephens and potentially Maybury. Doesn't look too bad compared to last year.

    Sorree.
Kujabi is naturally a left-midfielder as far as I'm aware, he'll be better played there as he is less likely to defend all the time
