    Can't win :(

I managed to get a ticket but my celebrations were dampened by the fact that I can't get it off work! I could greet! Anyone else in a similiar situation?

What do you do for work? Can't is a very strong word but it depends on each individual. I didn't even ask for the time off, I just told them I am going.

these are the days when dying grandparents come in handy...be creative in your lying and build up the story over the coming week so that when the death occurs on friday the 18th your boss will insist you take the following day off work to mourn...failing that, sell me your ticket for a tenner.

Unless you are an emergency service worker or do the most unbelievably fantastic job, I'd tell your work to ram it.

Pull a sicky, whatever. There are more jobs out there than there are chances to watch Hibs win the Scottish Cup.

I work in Next full time but I was told I can't have it off as a holiday. I even asked to take it unpaid and get someone else to cover the shift but was denied that too.

    Is your manager a Jambo?

Unless your the gynecologist for the Kardashian family, I'd be very tempted to tell your boss to shove it.

Take a huge number of laxative tablets on the Thursday, go to work on Friday and make a great show of ****ting your pants and your guaranteed the Saturday off.

You may be in even deeper **** when your boss sees you on the tv but well worth it.

Next? Thought you were talking mega important. Phone up on the morning tell them you are sick. Doubt they can sack you even without a doctors line unless you've had previous verbal/written warnings.

Tell them your either off or you quit. A job isn't worth a cup win.

F*** them and ask if anyone will cover you, THEN go and tell them that you need the day off and your shift is covered.

It's better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission.

If you've got a good record with them and haven't missed any other days then just pull a sicky. Make it realistic and treat yourself to the day before off as well

What you don't want to do is make a fuss about not getting the day off between now and then. Just say nothing and get on with it.

A doctor's line would be useful too!!

    Needs must

Wise words, but I'd maybe delete the thread too just for good measure to avoid any audit trail

If Hibs win and you're not there, you will NEVER forgive yourself.

Jobs come and go, but cup wins come round less often than Halleys comet

I usually work Saturdays in a bar, but my manager lets me have whatever Saturdays I want off to see Hibs playing away from home because otherwise he knows I'll pull a sickie. You seem goosed unless your call in sick on the Thursday with violent diarrohea or food poisoning. If you are feeling especially brave break a couple of fingers in your stock room and use that as an excuse for a weekend off.

Tell her that apart from the odd straggler the entire population of Edinburgh will either be at Hampden or watching a wee game of fitba in the pub. Shouldn't think a new pair of y-fronts, a bra and a pair of socks would be a priority to anyone except maybe a Yam crossdresser.

Tell her to :giruy: see you Monday.

Yes. Unless she/one of your superiors/co-workers is at the Cup final, sees you and dobs you in, then yes. Assuming you're on a FT, signed contract and haven't had previous written warnings for unexplained absence then you have rights.

No matter how much a Jambo wench she may be, she can't just sack you off the bat if it's a 1st offence and she can't actually prove you were skiving.
