Will be sad to see Sodje go. For all his failings, he scored goals for us when we needed them and never gave less than 100%. A good guy IMHO.

I'm never a fan of trialists and it suggests that our transfer strategy is a mess/non-existent but we'll see.

    Agree about Sodje Beefster.
I reckon we have players in mind and as always it depends on goings on elsewhere. whether their clubs have relacements in the pipeline that maybe fall through or not as the case may be. that sort of thing.
Nothing wrong with having a look at players meantime that maybe were not on our radar but could do a job if the opportunity presents itself.
We are should be and I think are are looking past just staying up and the balance of the squad past the end of the season shouldn't be forgotten about with so many players contracts up in the summer. I think we are seeing this with the players that have left this window.
Happy enough so far with a good number of days left to strengthen further.

Lee Croft will be a very good signing for St J I reckon.

Yeah I kind of agree in regards to trials however it is the way football has gone. No point in scouts as clubs are skint and players are more or less missionaries now! Players get freed and go on trial all the time now. I remember the only time you heard anyone going for a trial was part timers coming into train or the odd player coming in from outside the Professional game! Agents and players rule transfer policy now - extremely hard for any manager to go Out and get the player he has watched for 6 months and ultimately mould a team

Notice on BBC website that Dundee Utd are not going to offer Danny Swanston a new contract. I had heard in October, from a very good source in Dundee, that his agent was saying he would be signing for Hibs. Don't know if that will still happen under PF though as Calderwood was manager at the time.

That's v surprising given he's been in a Scotland squad in last year. However Houston's more of a grafter than a "flair" player manager, could never imagine him being interested in Deeks so on reflection perfectly possible.

As much as I'd like him in our team, he'd want a decent wage and is injured a lot. Dunno if it would be worth it or better to look elsewhere.

Latapy, Boozy and Benji were amongst players to come for trials so don't knock it! It can often just be to assess fitness at this time of year and to assess their character more than their football ability.

He is a superb player but his injury problems would be a concern. United spent quite a lot of money sending him to specialists who reported they couldnt find anything wrong, and Im sure it was Houston who said its all in his head. If someone could get him over that he would be an excellent signing however./

#Falkirk's Farid El Alagui is just one of the names on #Aberdeen manager Craig Brown's target list, remains hopeful 1 or 2 more this month

    And

Jack Grimmer completes move from #Aberdeen to #Fulham, like Scott Allan, it seems you don't have to earn your moves these days! #onestart

So in summary, the transfer update is that there is no transfer update?

And I'd forecast that this will be remain the case until the end of the transfer window unless we buy or sell some players.
Buy nothing online unless you check for free cashback here first. I've already earned £2,389.68!

All we need to make that happen is for an interested club to make an offer we think is suitable or indeed for us to make an offer to a club that is deemed suitable. Once that has happened terms would be discussed with the player in question and following a successful conclusion to these talks this player would then be bought or sold.

Grimmer was an absolute standout for Scotland in Victory Shield a couple of years back. Obviously one for the future

Quite depressing him and Allan moving to no doubt an EPL Reserve or Youth team when they could be pushing for SPL first team spots up here. Dont think it will benefit their careers but no doubt they and their agents will be better off.

Maybe you have an insight in to how these things work Scoopyboy? I presume we have our concrete targets which we are progressing in the usual manner of negotiations whilst in other business agents are hawking various players about who are invited for trials here there and everywhere and Hibs have shown some interest in these four.

The three foreign trialists have come via an agent (Salvatori that used to play for HOMOFC).

I think there are two modes as you have suggested Spike. Concrete targets and ones that are getting pushed at you and it might be worth having a wee look at.

I was wondering if Rhys Murphy had anything to do with a recommendation from George Francomb.

He is way better than any of the wide players we have at the club at present. The guy has good attitude and works hard, as well as a reasonable degree of skill. I'd have him at ER, no question.

Swanson, never really established himself as a first team regular and as a few have pointed out, injury prone.

I met Salvatori and his business associate a few months back and he came across as a very nice guy, talked various things Hibs and Hearts. He is/was a good friend of Sauzee's so he informed me. He was a bit taken aback when pointing out how bi a hero Frank is amongst Hibs fans, he didnt appreciate to that extent. He gave me his business card, think its still in the house somewhere, might rake it out tonight and give him a bell for the low down on these players

Rhys Murphy is meant to be a very decent player. I'd rather we went for some midfielders though, mind you who's saying we aren't.
