Basically some sicko played a prank on Hanlon's dad pretending Paul had been killed in a car crash.

the quote if true:Derek said he had FORGIVEN the caller hence the resaon the police are not taking this any further suggests its someone they know.

This is typically of the mentality that now prevails in our society, cuddling and coaching does not work with the majority of idiots in our country, Human rights have gone way to far and constructive punishments are the only way to curb the majority of criminals and idiots in this soft country.
