Czech game is a must win

Qualification for Euro 2012 should become a lot clearer after today and certainly after Tuesday. What is clear is that we have to beat the Czechs and the Liths. If we don't second place in the group is unlikely!

IF we can beat the Czechs and the Liths, we will have 10 points from six games, with the Czechs 9 points from six games. The Czechs could go back above us if they beat Spain. A draw may not be enough for them depending on our result today. If they fail to get a result against Spain, then a win for Scotland away to Liechtenstein would mean that we finish second and likely to get a play-off slot. That would mean the Czechs game away to the Liths and ours away to Spain are not important - even the race for a play-off slot should be secured by then!

IF we can beat the Czechs and the Liths, our 10 points from six games would put us in 5th equal in the race for the play-offs. Above us would be:

    Norway 13 (from 6)
    Sweden 12 (6)
    Rep. Ireland 11 (6)
    Montenegro 11 (6)

    We would be level with

    Croatia 10 (5)
    Bosnia 10 (6)

    We would be above

    Turkey 7 (5)
    Slovenia 5 (6)

All of these teams could change as:

1 - Team may potentially finish first in its group
3 - Team may potentially finish third or worse in its group
6 - Sixth-placed team in group may change (so ranking of second-placed team may improve or worsen even if it does not play).

The team at the top of each group will qualify automatically. The second-placed team with the most points from games versus the first-, third-, fourth- and fifth-placed teams will also qualify automatically. The remaining teams placing second in their respective groups will contest two-legged play-offs, with the winner of each play-off tie qualifying for the finals.

Second place and we are definitely in the play offs regardless of how many points other teams have in the other groups.

After last night (Yams vs Liechtenstein) the Czechs may see a point as enough today and play defensive. Hopefully we can break them down and get 3 points.

The game I am most worried about is away in Vaduz. The Lichs arenae the push overs that most people thought they would be!

Also I worry the Czech's may be able to snatch a point or more vs Spain at home, but we just have to concentrate on getting 9 points in the next three games.

    We'll be coming
