Sons of Connolly
A proud Hibernian supporter from Glasgow has started a Facebook page, please show your support.
The Sons Of Connolly is a group of Hibernian fans that celebrate our past and want to pass down a successful club to our children and our children’s children. Right now that is not happening!
We are a group that welcomes all races and religions, all colours and all creeds in the true spirit of James Connolly and his passion of equality for all.
We do not ask that you are a Socialist or even a Republican, what we do ask though is that you respect the group members that are and they in turn are asked to respect your views. This is our duty as Hibernians.
This group’s function is an area where likeminded Hibernians can discuss issues and street level action. This is an area for mature debate, free from bigotry and childish bickering… we are ALL Hibernians.
I truly wish that this group did not need to be set up … unfortunately however the time has come to stand up, the time has come to discuss direct action. This may come in the form of email campaigns, letters, visits to the training group, phone calls and visits to Easter Road to Protest (both inside and outside of the ground).
Now more than ever is the time to take action, now is the time to stand up and be counted, not to be considered as just a “cash cow” for Petrie's cabal.
We welcome debate and discussion and most of all action, as One People, One Movement and One GOAL.
I look forward to meeting and discussing these and many more issues with each one of you.
Glory, Glory to the Hibees!

This has more than a few overtones of the Celtic fans of the mid 90s who bemoaned the fact they hadn't won a trophy for a whole six years.

Can we not have "direct action" without political undertones. Leave that to the Weedgies!

I notice a former Net regular with strong political views an admin. What ever happened to Riz? Rarely agreed with his politics but enjoyed his banter none the less.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think I am hard enough for the street level action so if you don't mind I'll give the meetings a miss. Education is a wonderful thing.

So I question the motives of using his name.
There may very well be at this moment in time the need for such a pressure group vehicle.
I'm far from convinced its this though....

Given the content of the OP, I would say without prejudice, that I wouldn't go near a group like this. My decision does not imply anything other than a difference of opinion, albeit a fundamental one. The balance of respecting each others opinions has to be equal in a pluralist democratic society.

It has political and religious undertones and I object to hibs.net being used as a platform for its promotion - loadypish

Can I ask what this "direct action" hopes to achieve and how they are going to do it before I lend my considerable bulk to the cause?

Interesting that the OP is Glasgow based. As someone who works in Glasgow and socialises there I can tell you now this stinks of sectarianism. When have we ever called fellow Hibs fans Hibernians? James Connolly whilst a hibs ball boy, working class fighter he is more widely known for his Irish republican stance. Next we will be having Hibernian walks. Let knock this on the head now.
No need for politics at ER or any other Scottish football ground.

In my opinion the only thing you've got wrong here is the name.
Call it 'Sons of Hibernian' or 'petrie oot' leave the political stuff away from football.
