The AC Milan team of the late 80's with Van Bastem/Guillt etc was a great team but I think this one beats it.

For those of a certain age, how does this Barca team compare with Brazil 1970?

Xavi is the best all round technical player I've ever seen. And Messi is as good as Pele or Maradona, if not better.

I recall the 1970 Brazil team and they were superb going forward, working on the basis that if they conceded 3 they'd score 4 but this present Barca team are by far the best I have ever seenThis is how it feels

I would agree, Brazil 1970 would have beaten barca 2011, but what a game it would be...............................

Can't comment on brazil 1970 but how good are baca at the back?honest question as i tihnk when people talk bout baca its how good there are in mid and in there forward line that seem to be top of the tops.I noticed that former liverpool player(marcecalano(sp))was playing for baca and in defence and i thught he was a midfielder.
late on last night vs man utd, nani got down the wing and baca didn#t look too good, though it was like the alst 2 mins.
The reason i ask is how many times have baca been tested at the back?
Though they are an amazing team i feel there workrate from the baca team is no doubt world class

Club v Country comparisons are not really valid. National sides can't decide they want another countries players and buy them (apart from the French). They can only be compared to other countries. In that respect, Brazil c1970 were miles ahead of anybody. Barcelona are by miles the best team that money can buy. And yes I know that a lot of their players come through their academy but they, along with other European giants, are not averse to paying big bucks for 9 year old kids.

It's the amount of possession they get that impresses me the most, more than 60% against a top team in a Champions League Final... Astonishing.

If Spain 2010 are indeed better than Brazil 1970 and if Barca 2011 are the best club side ever, surely a recognised Catalonia 2011 would be up there with the all-time great national sides?
They would lack world-class full-backs and a truly top-level striker -- have to "make do" with Bojan, Sergio Garcia, Serrano etc -- but a midfield of Xavi, Fabregas, Busquets and Iniesta (eligible through residency) is frightening. Valdés, Puyol and Pique would be a strong foundation at the back. They'd certainly sh** all over the rest of Spain.
Hypothetical, obviously, but so is the whole thread. The point I'd like to make is how strong a Catalan side would be despite the population of only 7.5m! It's easy to say Barca buy success but there's obviously something very right in the culture.
*edit: slipped my mind that Capdevila is also Catalan!Last edited by Makaveli; 29-05-2011 at 03:44 PM.
