I had a cracking net 67 on Saturday in absolutely brutal conditions.
Wind was howling and a fair bit of rain. Started with a 6 and was thinking it was going to be a hell of a day. 4 solid pars then a duff drive at the 5th followed by a lay up with a rescue club and a nice pitch into the hole for a birdie really kick started the round.
Thought i was a cert to win the medal then some barsteward came in with a 66!!
Not a bad start to the season though.

Good luck Guys. Opens are a great and inexpensive way to play golf.
I have 13 entries off so far for the ones I really want to play. Being of a certain age has opened up a few midweek ones.

I had a game at Goswick today (Berwick upon Tweed). It's a very good course but jeez it was cauld - only 6 degrees when we started and the mist never really lifted.
Goswick has recently been upgraded and is now used as an Open Championship qualifier. I'll defer further judgement until the next time I play there and hopefully I'll be able to see the actual holes!

Course was great Alex. Shame about my golf
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!"

On an aside - I'm 6 foot .. do any others of similar height have their clubs lengthened?
I'm thinking I need to get measured and a custom-fit set of irons.

I've got what looks like being a very wet medal todayLife should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, vodka in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Thank You.

Hollandbush- needed 4 down the last for buffer and smacked it OOB and then promptly lost my second ball in the opposite semi rough = NR.
Buffer at Newbattle. Both days 1 over playing the 9th and played really poor the back nine. Bloody game.
Got a tie tomorrow night up the road. but will need to raise my game for that.
PS the greens at Newbattle are absolutely fantastic.
