    League Cup Sponsorship

.... in effect means the Old Firm are being being funded by criminals. No change there then

I don't like the idea that money that was earmarked for community is being used to 'sponsor' a competition.

First of all, it ultimately funds top level football and the high wages those people receive.

Second of all, I'd be sceptical if any of the funds are used in the community as a result of the sponsorship.

    It's the SFL.
Although your point is still valid.

You are 100% correct. Although the SFL used to (not sure now) ask the SFA commerical department (formerly commerical manager Bill Wilson) to source sponsors for their events.

I would imagine both the average rangers and celtic fans would be most unhappy with this, given that they already contribute much of their hard earned crime cash to their clubs with money for season tickets.

I have no problem with investing in football in terms of communities, but pumping a million quid into mostly the pockets of SPL clubs, and by extension, mostly the Old Firm, doesn't strike me as a valid use for this money, particularly in the current climate.

It's a scandal, it really is. You could have given three grass roots clubs an all weather training facility to keep thousands of kids playing for this. At the VERY worst, they could have done a 50/50 match with a business, who would have got it at half price. I know it's tough to find sponsors, but with a whole commercial team on full time wages, you'd have thought it was one of their priority jobs of the year.
