You would expect such an incident to take place at a training ground like Riccarton, where there are loads of students and are in competition with pro footballers for scarce resources.
In fact it probably has happened, but the Hearts players were unable to get any shots on target.

I think there is something to be said for keeping the numbers under control by having an official season but not just indiscriminately taking pot shots at them, say just after the grouse season finishes to give the idle rich like Cole something they can legally do in their spare time?
For the other 11 months he could hide from the rest of us who would like to give him a damn good kicking but we could legitimately seek him out Any views?

Professional footballers have to train hard and have a very short career. Therefore they should surely be allowed to do this sort of thing, at least while they are still making a living from the game. At 30 Cole is coming to the end of his career and his opportunities for shooting students in the future will be greatly reduced, if indeed, they will exist at all. He should be shown some compassion IMHO.
