Being reported the Giants may fire the GM after the draft

Wouldn’t blame them. Everywhere I’ve been reading draft and NFL analysis has been slating him, for a number of poor decisions in a number of ways.

51 days until College Football is back

9 weeks until regular season NFL

It cannot come quick enough, I mean the CFL is filling a void but it's not nearly as good

Eh, I'd say it's still 4 weeks away, what we have right now is "Pretend" Football

I will say that of all the preseason games, the 4th game is generally the most interesting one for me, none of the established "starters" play, it's solely for the "roster bubble" guys to make a case to stay on the team as backups or special teams guys

    18 game season?

Good article, if only for the first known written use of the word 'wackadoodle'.

I'm not sure I see the hatred toward the idea.

We all rue the fact that the season is quite so short, but appreciate the physical limitations the players experience over the course of a season. We all also realise that squads might be large, but the elite players see most game time - this would allow fringe/new players an opportunity to get some gametime and make a name for themselves. A chance to shine immediately as a rookie, rather than waiting for a breakthrough or someone to retire.

So long as the clubs had the option to chose which players were rested when, and not simply a "all of the elite players must be rested in the last 3 games of the season". It forces clubs to be tactical with their players.

Sure, it's a cash move, but it increases the number of games for the fans to enjoy without risking the players any further. I like the idea.

You support a team. They are neck in neck in a wildcard race with two weeks left in an 18 week season. But your star QB has played his regulated 16 games so the rules say you have to bench him in favour of your untested rookie? And the same situation is happening at maybe the Wide Receiver or defensive end position, and your opponents star players maybe by chance (by suspension, injury etc) have already missed their two games and are therefore ready to batter your team in the crucial week 18, playoff deciding clash?

    Ridiculous. Leave the season alone.

It might encourage teams to use their untested rookies more regularly through the season in preparation, rather than having them be benched for entire games at a time and making flash appearances. Teams will need to schedule their players in accordance with their schedule and identify games they can perhaps afford to pass over to their backup cast. Playing a team that are weak against the pass? Rest your elite WR. Playing a team with a dreadful defensive line? Rest your star RB.

The season is so short, and there's such a long wait between them that most fans would surely be happy for more football?

I'd rather a team succeeds by individual exploits by the best players on the field, rather than that kind of season management of arbitrarily imposed league rules, but each to their own...

I remember (just) the old 14 game season. So I don't have a problem in principle with moving to longer seasons. Its specifically the bench players idea that's wackadoodle...

I know it's only pre-season, and I know it was just the Lions, but I was really impressed by our draftees last night. Winovich, Harry and Stidham all looked very comfortable in their respective positions. Harry adds speed and physique as a wide-out, something we've not had in years. Winovich is explosive off the line, and got pressure on the Lions QB regularly and Stidham looks so cool in the pocket, but is equally happy breaking out and passing on the move.

We're 3-0 in pre-season so far. I understand pre-season means dick, but what's encouraging me is that our secondary string players are really stepping up and playing some good football to put themselves in contention.

Surprised we released Ryan Allen through the week - he'll be a great punter for whichever roster he happens to land on but I guess BB et al are looking to the future.

I stayed up to watch the Dolphins Jags games last night.

Our O line is still an absolute mess, with the exception of LT not one area is fit for purpose. On the positive we improved tenfold when Rosen came into the game. He scrambled well when he had to, got the ball away under pressure and there seemed an emphasis on getting the ball forward quickly and a 99 yard TD drive was good to watch. The less said about Fitzpatrick the better. There shouldn't even be a 'quarterback competition'.

He's going to surprise a few people, I never got why he gets so much stick. Arizona were a mess last year, he had no help at all.

Saw this stat on Twitter earlier:

Most passing TDs in first 6 NFL seasons:

    Dan Marino 196
    Andrew Luck 171
    Peyton Manning 167
    Russell Wilson 161

Most passing yards in first 6 NFL seasons:

    Peyton Manning 24,885
    Dan Marino 23,856
    Andrew Luck 23,671
    Matt Ryan 23,472

Whilst being an NFL QB has become a far easier job in recent years it's still one that is likely to see you hurt a fair few times. Good luck to him in whatever he does next.

Marino achievements dwarf the others in that list because he was playing in an era where the rulebook made it harder for qbs than it is today. Nobody had seen anything like it. Accuracy and arm strength combined. He revolutionised the sport.

I thought DT looked incredible. Thankfully he was available to be promptly drafted!
Madness, as you know, is a lot like gravity. All it takes is a little push.
