MacLean trained at Riccarton for the first time this morning. He is out of favour with English Championship club Plymouth and is keen to rejuvenate himself at Hearts, the club he supported as a child. He boasts a sound goalscoring record after leaving formative club Rangers and became a fans' favourite at Scunthorpe United and Sheffield Wednesday, but the move to Home Park has been less successful.
"Steven is from Edinburgh, he is a Hearts supporter who played for Rangers and he is also a very good goalscorer. He can play in different positions. He can play the No.10 role or he can play just behind the striker. He can help us for six months.
Steve MacLean (born 23 August 1982 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a forward for Plymouth Argyle. Maclean grew up as a Hibernian fan in Peebles and is related to former Easter Road midfielder Kevin Thomson, now of Rangers.

McLean certainly was a Hibs fan (and presumably still is) when he left Peebles. As a professional footballer however he has to earn a living and if that involves rejecting personal emotions and feelings then I think there is every chance he will sign for the Jambos. I believe that injury has contributed greatly to the demise of his career and I don't think he is the quality of player that they want/need at the moment.

couple of years back he seemed to have a fair goals to games ratio. I really hope those clowns have bought no strikers by Feb 1st

I remember him hitting a golden patch a few years ago with Wednesday I think and then he seemed to be constantly injured.
Rima's golden stick will be working o/time what with him and Kingston on thier books.

I can recall watching him playing for Peebles Thistle, he couldn't have been much older than 7 or 8 at the time and he was scoring goals for fun every week. I'm sure he was brought up as a Hibs fan though I could be wrong.

He was - in fact I distinctly remember he got ejected by the stewards for sneaking into the cow shed from the open terracing when he was a toddler.

What relation is he to Thomshun?
Could we do worse than offer the boy a trial? Don't know much about him, but he sounds like a decent enough striker who knows were the goal is.

Sky Sports said he was on trial with them for a week. Romanov can't spot a a striker so if he's any good they won't sign him.

MacLean and MacLeod are quite similar in that they have good goalscoring records in the English third and fourth levels (League One / League Two), but they have struggled at the second level (Championship). I think that means they would be okay, but nothing special, in SPL terms.
