Have never heard Aston Villa described as "the Brutus" before. Anyone know how they got that nickname, and is it one that present day fans are familiar with?
ps I note that Groves was playing for Hibs, so that would make it pre-1888, also there is a counter attraction described at Powderhall (new year sprint?), so 1-1-1887 sounds right.Last edited by Phil D. Rolls; 15-10-2009 at 09:21 AM.

In fairness to Mr Regan (did I just say that?), he has actually admitted to the uncharitable goings on of Celtc in times past. Although quite when he finally admits to his Soap allergy I couldn't possibly speculate

Hibs have played Villa 11 times over the years and we don't have the best of records against them.

(could have been 3-11 if 3 goals had not been disallowed)
09/04/1887 Away lost 0-3
04/04/1896 Away won 2-1
18/04/1896 Home lost 2-5
30/11/1914 Away lost 3-8 (again)
30/11/1949 Away Lost 2-5
30/11/1968 Home Lost 1-4
20/10/1969 Home Lost 1-4
05/08/1989 Away (does anyone remember this game or the score?)
14/10/1991 Home Won 4-2 (Alan Sneddon testimonial)
30/11/1991 Home Lost 0-1
