Lack of space, the road curves round the corners behind the stands so the stands cant go all the way back

It's a shame that they don't go right back as it makes them look a bit odd. Viewing the South Stand from above you can see why at a glance.

Would agree with you to a certain extent , if they did go all the way back it would add another few hundred to the capacity and make the logistics of filling the corners in a lot easier(should the need ever arise) .
Personally speaking tho i actually quite like it as it adds a wee bit of character to the ground . Too many grounds these days are almost identikit .

Isn't it cos with these new type lego stadiums, you have the capacity to join it altogether in a circle by filling the corners in? I am sure on a similar thread a few months back there was a link to a CGI that showed what this would look like?

Agree that think the road theory being correct i was thinking about the possibility of when the old main satnd was there there might have been a reason on designing it that it curved fo it being to long and added with the old skool and the south just so it mathces.

i lieks the idea for the potential to make it round but i think thats not the case as if hibs were to fill in the corners they would do the famous 5 ends first so it would lead to the question why just the one side could you imagine how weird it woudl look if the south and east were attached with a corner and the west and famous 5

but it is more than likly the road issue in the pic above

Did you see Fergus mentioning he saw Brian Blessed at ER? Shirley he was just looking in a mirror?

PS. So as not to hijack this thread, the curves are so the corners could be filled in at some point

They can be but this would be very expensive and unlikely in the foreseeable future

Pretty positive that it's because of the road at either end and nothing to do with filling in corners.

    Exactly!

Have a look at this and this and you'll see that it's simply following the shape of the road behind each stand.

    From Horse's Mouth

Spoke to Dougie Crombe after stands went up and he explained North Stand had to be slanted because of road, but South stand was a mistake and should have been straight!! Summed up our professionalism at the time.

    Wiki says differently...

    Personal life
Blessed now lives in Surrey. He married the actress Hildegarde Neil Zimmermann in 1978 and they have one daughter, Rosalind.[7] He also has a number of dogs. Blessed and Neil appeared together on an episode of the ITV game show "All Star Mr And Mrs" on May 23, 2009. In the show, it was revealed that the only thing that he cannot do without is condensed milk.
Blessed is a lifelong friend of another noted Shakespearean and sci-fi veteran Patrick Stewart,[1] whom he first met at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
He supports Newcastle United football club. On Soccer AM (Sky Sports 1, 10 January 2009) Blessed admitted he also admires Manchester United. He has also been quoted as saying that he supports his home town club Doncaster Rovers.
There is no such thing as too much yarn, just not enough time.

Wiki must be wrong. He and Lena Zavaroni could often be seen in the East Stand belting out show tunes whilst drinking condensed milk...

Did you get the right end of the horse?

If the South Stand had been straight, it would have been partly built on the road at the back of the stand. I'd imagine the companies with buildings at that end of the ground, who relied on the road for access, would have had something to say if it had been.
