    Jimmy O'Rourke's Birthday 18 September

    And an anniversary to remember.

For it was on his 19th birthday way back on 18 September 1965 that Jimmy scored a double against Hearts to help us go up 4-0 after only 11 minutes, which ended up the final score.

I was there that day, just as I was when Jimmy made his debut at Easter Road against Utrecht, and again when he played his final game for Hibs in a midweek cup defeat at Dundee.

By my arithemtic that makes Jimmy 63 on his birthday.

    A true Hibs legend.

A great player and a great guy

Some folks may be unaware that when Jimmy took to the field against Utrecht he was only 16!

One of my fav Derbies, the look on Hertz fans coming in at 3.15 only to find their team trailing 4-0 to the mighty Hibees was priceless

A true legend. Willing to play anywhere on the park. As a fine striker of a free kick, IMO he'd more than give Deeks a run for his money.

I remember being fair chuffed my first day at Secondary to find I had "Jimmy's Desk". Only to find out later that there weren't many classrooms at Holy Cross that didn't have a desk with his name carved on it.

I remember the 4-0 and many other great games he played.
    Happy Birthday Jim

A very happy birthday and a long life to one of Hibernians true greats. A gentleman and a scholar, they broke the mould when he was born.

There weren't many Hearts fans getting in at 3:15, but there had been plenty coming out during the previous 5 minutes or so.

I was still queuing up to get in at about 10 past 3 and all we could hear was the unmistakable roar of goals going in. We weren't sure who was scoring the goals until a stream of Jambos starting exiting the ground.

What a great day - I think I only missed the first two goals.

    Happy Birthday, Corkie.

Sorry don't know about that but I recall being in the Mitre (think) in the Royal Mile in October 1992 and seeing and saying hello to him. Not sure if he was owner or manager there.

    Yes he did.

My all time Hibs hero ….. had the cheek to refuse me a pint a week before my 18th birthday, the first time I had ever been asked in months! Well you couldn’t tell your hero a lie so off I went elsewhere with Jimmy shouting after me “Come back next week and I’ll buy you one.”

A week later, 11 o’clock or so I was at the bar. No Jimmy!!! His wife shouted down the cellar and up he came and true to his word my first legal pint poured and paid for by my hero!

A real treat came a couple of years later when he came into the pub I was working in part time and I bought him one!

A great many beers have passed the same way since then.

I’ve had the pleasure of drinking in most of his pubs.

Jimmy, Jimmy O’Rourke everyone knows his name.

Think he did, he was also on the commitee at the Hibs club for a while and from what I've heard he was given the boot for reasons unknown.

Still that won't gloss over the fact he is and always will be a Hibernian legend

Mine too, It was Jimmy that explained the offside rule to me as a youngster in the old west stand many many moons ago. I was also in Perth for what I think was his debut for St J against us where the majority of the support seemed to be Hibbies cheering on wee Jimmy.

Remember hearing at the time that S&N wanted to take control of the Corstorphone Inn back from Jimmy, but as he'd built up a really good clientelle at the pub, they gave him a lump sum and offered to let him run Jock's Lodge - and a good job he made of it too IIRC.
    Jimmy O' - one o' the best.

I once asked Stan Vincent for his autograph and as I handed him the book and pen his face broke in to a wide grin and he asked me who the best centre forward in Scotland was. Being an honest young lad I said "Colin Stein" and he handed me the book back unsigned Stein had been keeping him out of the first team so I guess my honesty was not what he wanted to hear

another heart wrenching day when the wee man turned out for the opposition, like King Patrick. always remember a Hibby running on the pitch and draping a scarf roond Jimmie's neck. Happy birthday Jimmy O'Rourke
