    The St Johnstone Double-Header

I know we have the game at Hamilton, and it could be tougher than many people expect. They've had a chance to regroup after the international week and will be fired up to get their first points of the season.

I also know that it's dangerous to look ahead. But after a promising preseason and the introduction of decent players, albeit with some building at the back to do, I feel the League and Cup double header approaching is a crucial week for Hibs.

To record back-to-back home wins against SPL opposition is always difficult, but if we are to win our home games against clubs below us, and make more impact in cup competitions, two wins would seem essential.

I think the Saintees week is the first real test of Yogi's Hibs. I'd settle for a decent League win and scrambling through to the next round of the League Cup on pens after extra time.

    Who'll take the pens though?

I'll go for Riordan and, er, er ... dunno who else to be confident in after that.
Is Yogi signing any under-28 spot kick specialists before the Saintees games?

last season under MP we struggled against the so called weee teams
i think you`ll find that JH will want to do well in the cup competitions as well as the league
we lost to the tic,,,,,,but we have the nucleus of a very GOOD team
JH certainly looks like he will not take any slackers
    so onwards and upwards
if we can get back on a winning habit,,,who knows what we can achieve this season,,,,,,,,,,,[plus if he can add to the squad, even better]

The double header will certainly give us an indication of how we'll do this season.

Last year, we would probably draw the league game and scrape through in extra time in the cup - or more likely not even be in that round!!).

Certainly 9 points from our next 3 league games will show our intent!!

back to back double headers are always difficult, just look at the recent Dunfy v Raith matches, Dunfy won the cup game only for raith to win in the league, i think we will win 1 of them + draw the other but don't know in which order!

Think it'll be quite difficult to draw the second one!

I would be extremely disappointed if we did not win both especially as we are at home

When do teams ever win both games when they face the same team twice in a week?

So in your view Hibs didn't win their semi-final against the Saintees in 2007?

Thats the classic one isn't it?........I wonder what the statisticians on here could tell us about our record in double headers cup/league.

FWIW, I'd take the cup win over league points at this stage of the season. Lets face it, 3 missed points won't affect our ability to finish second in a crappy league........
The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits

The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they do not know the game

After our poor start to the season in terms of performance, culminating in the nightmare against Hamilton, I said we would draw on Saturday and lose tonight. I'm not in the least surprised. Once again we've lain down meekly and become the SPL whipping boys. We have to be the 'soft touch' team that everyone wants to play as our style gives every team a chance to score goals.

    Decent foresight there, DBS.
