Yes, this is right, the reason being that, believe it or not, a group of fraudsters in the Edinburgh area have discovered a system whereby with virtual races, they can narrow the field down to 2 horses, just by watching the break. Due to the fact that many horses win at high prices, these people are staking large amounts, and "winning" large amounts. They have been offering staff large tips to get them to pay out.

Because of this no-one will be paid out on a virtual race if the bet is even a second late, as if the group of fraudsters see a smaller stakes punter being paid out, they will argue about themselves deserving a pay out. Oh and by the way, its your responsibility to get a bet on in time, not the staffs, try coming up to the counter quicker.

If you name a dog, and put it on after the race, the cashier will assume it is for a horse as very few people name dogs, they will accept the bet, but it wont be paid out as it's been done after the race. A lot of working in a bookies comes down to discretion, in this case it didn't there is just no way of paying out late virtuals. On top of this, he would have got his money (stake back)
