Ferrari 'to quit' over budget row

Ferrari 'to quit' over budget row

Ferrari have announced they will quit Formula 1 at the end of the season if the sport continues with plans to enforce a £40m budget cap from 2010.

"No F1 in 2010 if the rules do not change," read a statement. "Ferrari does not intend to register cars for the 2010 F1 world championship."
    More to follow.

    Would anyone be bothered?

    OK I’ll say more.

£40m is hardly the change Ferrari use in hospitality never mind getting a car on the track. Also there are so many things not included in the proposed £40m like the £100m+ that Ferrari spend on engines or the £60m+ on drivers!

The whole thing is becoming a blummin’ farce.

One financial incentive might be to have say a £100m ceiling. For every £10m over that you loose a world championship point and every £5m under you get one.

Who audits it? The whole thing would be unworkable.

and ferrari arent the only ones who threatens to quit, bmw and red bull, toro rosso, toyota and renault are also at it iirc.

IMO the budget cap goes against everything f1 is about anyway, it would be nice to see new teams but there must be better ways

so far mclaren have kept quiet (probably trying to stay out of trouble)

f1 grid next season could only consist of williams, force india, brawn, usf1,

If they're unhappy why don't they walk this season?

im pretty sure its a contract with sponsors and FOM etc they will have to finish the season, and they are saying they will only walk if the budget cap is introduced, the deadline for signing up for next season is 29-05-2009 so should be intresting

If it had been my kid, he wouldn't be driving for a loooooong time

Ok, not totally his fault but it's the way he looked at the kid with contempt like it was his fault
