25/9/1991 Scottish League Cup Semi Final
Hibernian 1 v 0 Rangers
Wright 29
The team that would not die turned up at Hampden Park against the might and financial clout of Rangers with little hope of success
Rangers were without the injured Richard Gough and the soviet pair Oleg Kuznetsov and Alexei Mikhailichenko who were away on international duty but Rangers were still expected to win this
Hibs put in a solid performance especially by a midfield superbly marshalled by experienced veteran Murdo MacLeod
The breakthrough came on the half hour when exhibee goalkeeper Andy Goram - playing against his old team for the first time -came for a high ball on the edge of his box to punch clear clashing with Mark McGraw - his punch fell as far as Mickey Weir who looking up picked out new signing Keith Wright who headed past two Rangers defenders stranded on the line to put HIBS 1-0 up.
Hibs held on for the next 61 minutes thanks to some stout defending from Gordon Hunter and Tommy McIntyre and some brilliant goalkeeping from John Burridge and in particular one save from McCoist where he held the ball after Mo Johnston’s initial effort hit the post and fell kindly for McCoist Burridge being quick enough to respond to the danger
HIBS would face Dunfermline in the final who beat Airdrie in the other semifinal on penalties at Tynecastle
This was the first Scottish League Cup match to be shown live on Sky Sports

25/9/1985 Scottish League Cup Semi-Final First Leg
Hibernian 2 v 0 Rangers
Chisholm
Durie
New signing from Sunderland Gordon Chisholm endeared himself to his new fans by opening the scoring on the 69th minute when he headed home a towering header from a Joe McBride free kick
Eight minutes later Rangers’ defence was shredded again with an action replay goal. McBride slipped the ball to skipper Iain Munro whose cross was powerfully headed home by Gordon Durie who stretched his lead as the Cup’s top scorer and won himself the Man of the Match award
Rangers were denied a penalty when Gordon Rae hauled down Ally McCoist in the box that looked even more of a penalty than the one awarded to Rangers in the first minute of the second half that was so superbly saved by Alan Rough.

Hibernian 4 v 1 Kilmarnock ( Agg 7-4)
Duncan
Stanton
Cropley
Munro
After drawing 3-3 in the first leg a big crowd turned up at Easter Road in anticipation of a goal fest.
Arthur Duncan got the ball rolling with an early strike but Kilmarnock were proving stubborn opponents and the fans had to wait until 18 minutes from the end when Pat Stanton doubled HIBS’ lead.
Eddie Morrison pulled one back for Killie but Alex Cropley scored the best goal of the game with a stunning left foot volley. Iain Munro a half time replacement for the injured Arthur Duncan wrapped things up with a goal a few minutes from the end.
