Starts on Friday night @ 1900 on ITV4, looks like a cracking tournament.
Attended this tournament 6 years ago when it was held at the Royal Highland Centre at Ingliston.
Went on the first night - guarantee of seeing every player play. Think there were 16 that year, so saw 8 games played. Not a sell out crowd but great atmosphere.
It was also memorable because it was the same day Pat Fenton was sacked. I wrote out one of those cards that are provided on the tables to write a ‘silly message’ and hopefully get yourself on TV. I wrote something along the lines of “please Mr Petrie, can I be the new Hibs manager”.
With it it sitting on my table waiting to get caught on camera, I gets a tap on the shoulder from a steward, saying “sorry you can’t use that. Rules of the tournament and tv that no football related messages are allowed. They don’t want to be associated with the game”. Was a bit gobsmacked to say the least. Also, apparently, if I’d had a Hibs strip on, I would have been refused entry as well!! WTF!
No football colours allowed at The Ally Pally either IIRC.
You're not allowed football colours at the Premier League nights either, clearly stated on the tickets a couple of years ago for the night in Glasgow. Although there was a guy sitting along from me who was wearing a non-Scottish top and he wasn't challenged.
Personally no issues with banning football tops but I don't see the problem with writing a non-offensive message on your card about your team.
Anderson out 10-8 to Adrian Lewis.
Wright wins 10-8 v Whitlock.
Clayton beats Van Gerwen 10-9.
King beats Price 11-10 with a bull finish. Superb match.
What a match between Mervyn King and Gerwyn Price!
King takes out 127 with a bullseye final dart to win 11-10.
Great match.
Clayton beats Wright 11-10 in another great game.
Don't think many people would've predicted this final
Has MVG dropped his standard or has everyone else got better with more practise.
Clayton wins 11-8 and a place in the Premier League.
